Plan In five years, I aspire to be a professional that promotes collective leadership, grows in integrity, and a challenges through navigating tough conversations. Leading within a circle is something I was socialized in during my undergraduate career, and therefore is an element that I brought coming into the SDA program. With the skills I have learned during my SDA experience, I feel more confident in encouraging collective leadership amongst my colleagues. However I need to be more confident in my ability to lead and follow through. This involves actively listening to peers and believing that they trust in me. Another crucial element in my career plan is to develop in my integrity. Coming from a collective leadership perspective, I have usually prioritized group harmony, which is good, but has halted my own moral growth. I have gone a long way in finding my own moral footing, but I realize that I can still be wishy-washy at times. Instead of perceiving myself as simply wishywashy, I need to explore the complex ways in which I think and how I stand morally depending on the contexts. Speaking with professionals about the importance of upholding moral standards is something I hope to do as an emerging professional. Lastly, I hope to be in a position where I can directly enrich lives of students and colleagues especially in times when they are most vulnerable. This is typically a cathartic and rewarding experience for me and is the basis for my passion for student affairs. Again, I can still improve in my confidence with interacting with students on a one-on-one level. I need to be more knowledgeable about policies and opportunities that can impact a student going through the darkest of moments (mental health issues, sexual harassment, suicide ideation). More importantly, I want to feel okay and justified in my actions even if the results are not what I expected.
