Computer worm Worm is a self-replicating piece of code that spreads via networks and usually does not require

human interaction to propagate. It hits one machine, takes over it and uses it as a staging ground to scan for and conquer other vulnerable systems. Worms are sent to other computers as an email attachment. After the infected email attachment is opened by an individual, the worm inflict its damage and then automatically sends copies of itself to other computes via internet or a private network using addresses in the e-mail address book located on the newly infected computers . The cycle continues when a new email attachment is opened. Worms spread rapidly of distribution method. Some worms scans the internet looking for computer that are vulnerable to that particular worm, sends a copy of itself to those computers to infect them. Others just require the user to view an infected email or insert a removable storage media e.g. the USB disk. Others are specifically written to take advantage of the newly discovered security holes (vulnerabilities) in operating systems. Examples:1. Mydoom Worm (2004) which one of every ten emails contained it). 2. Conficker(2008) which infected more than & million computers.
