Simpson ENC 1102 CRN 10844 5 February 2013 Community Engagement Service Learning Project Proposal: Habitat for Humanity PURPOSE The purpose of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity this semester and hopefully throughout our time here at Florida Gulf Coast University is to help a family and families in need. Habitat builds homes to families who maybe lost their home in a storm or just dont have the financial stability needed to provide a home for their families; or maybe they can provide a home, but it may not be one with a stable and healthy environment for children to live in. Habitat helps provide those families with a healthy and stable home for their entire family to live in. MEANINGFUL AND COMMUNITY BASED ISSUE(S)

Farinacci/ Kelly/ Smith/ Isaac 2 Many families in America dont have the funds to provide a home for their families; some may have a home, but not a healthy one for their kids to live in. Being we live in Florida, we also have the threat to get hit by hurricanes; but other states & countries have also been hit by national catastrophes that damage homes; leave families homeless, and that is why habitat is here: To provide families with affordable homes that are safe and healthy for their children to live in. SOLUTIONS/STRATEGIES (BRAINSTORMING) Volunteer opportunities are available in almost every department at Habitat for Humanity. Our group will be helping with manual labor and any help needed in the office. Habitat Humanity helps families make a house a home. Our group will be helping build a house to try to do just that. CONDUCT RESEARCH, CONTACT COMMUNITY PARTNERS Habitat for Humanity of Collier County works in partnership with deserving families in need to provide safe decent housing. CONTACT INFORMATION Kara Kouloheras is one of our contacts, but Dee (last name unknown) has been our main contact during the start of our partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Farinacci/ Kelly/ Smith/ Isaac 3 Email: kkouloheras@hfhcollier.com Dee (main Contact Person) (239)-775-0036 OUR STRATEGY We, as a group, will adapt to working hands on with the Habitats for Humanities Company. Some of us have never worked with a company like this one. We will also adapt by waking up much earlier than we are use to. As a result, well get to learn new hard and soft skills. Other than personal results, we will help a family get a new home to stay at. Not only will the family have a new home but the children of the family will have a safe place to grow up. Children are more likely to succeed in life when they are brought up in a healthy environment. Successful children will make better communities all around the world.
