HELMSDALE AND DISTRICT SWRI 31 January 2013

The twelve members of the Helmsdale S WRI who a6ended the rst monthly mee:ng of 2013 on 31 January were entertained by a very entertaining talk by Anthony Schrag, the Ar:st-in-Residence at Helmsdales Timespan Museum and Arts Centre. Through a slide and video presenta:on of some of his previous works and performances, he explained that his work is intended to s:mulate meaningful conversa:ons within communi:es and groups. In Helmsdale, he is developing a number of works connected with the bicentenary of the Helmsdale Riots in February 1813, which may include a Shinty Match followed by a modern protest march and riot in the village on 10 February. Winners were Jill Fergison for an illustrated poem; Joan Murray for her heart-shaped chocolate cake and Penny Kane for her protest placard. AQer reading of previous minutes and the treasurers report, nal arrangements were made for the provision of lunch and cakes for the Bulb Show in Rogart in 23 Febuary.
