Sir/Madam, With reference to Advertisement published in the newspaper in August 2012, in which institutions located in any of the 126 SC/ST concentrated districts eligible were requested to submit their proposals for Construction of Girls and / or Boys Hostel along with all documents prescribed in the UGC building construction guidelines. In this regard, with the approval of the Chairman, UGC, I am directed to convey the following decision :-

1. Since the scheme is launched specifically to benefit colleges located in SC/ST concentrated districts identified by the Government of India the guidelines for Construction of Women's Hostel for Colleges may be followed for construction of girls and / or boys hostels.

2. The Nature of assistance (Girls and / or Boys hostels in colleges located in SC/ST concentrated districts) to college under this scheme will be provided as prescribed for non metropolitan cities in the guidelines of Women's Hostel.

3.

Expenditure, over and above the UGC allocation, will have to be met by the institution from its own resources, for which, clear indication and assurance should be given by the concerned institution while submitting a proposal. The UGC will not provide any escalation cost over and above the allocation.

4. College located in SC/ST concentrated districts which have already received grant under the 'scheme for Construction of Women's Hostel earlier may be allowed to apply again for boy's hostel only under the scheme Girls and / or Boys hostels in colleges located in any of the 126 SC/ST concentrated districts and not for Women's hostel since they have already availed the benefit of special scheme of Construction of Women's Hostel from UGC.
