Date 28-30 Jan 2009
Week 3
Venue BK 20

Learning Outcomes
Remarks
By the end of the lesson students should be able to:
1. Simplify ratios as fractions
2. solve problems involving direct proportion On 29 Jan , Test 1
is given to PIP 1
3. solve problems involving indirect or inverse proportion. and DIA

Previous Knowledge

Students have learnt about fractions in the previous lessons.

Moral Value(s) / Soft skills

Appreciates the importance of ratios and proportions in the world of
business.
Set Induction
Introducing the history of mathematics theories by Muslim mathematicians.
Contents
Refer to notes in module as well as from PMR notes on ratios and proportions.

Activities
Going shopping
Students were asked what kind of shopping list do they have. An example is about the maggi
mee that have stocked up.
2 packet of maggi mee is priced at $3.80, and a 3 packet of a different brand of mee is priced at
$6.45. Which mee has the lower cost?
Find and compare the unit rates of the packages.
2 packet = 3.80
1packet = 1.90 Divide the numerator and denominator
the unit rate is RM 1.80 per packet.
For the 3 packet mee, the unit rate is RM2.15 per packet.
So, the maggi mee has a lower cost per packet.
Teaching Aids and Material
Whiteboard, marker

Reflection/ Intervention
Students gave good response when relating the topic to the experience that they have for example
shopping and comparing prices to relate with ratios and proportions.
