Sastry Karras Astrological Series Introduction

In Hindu Astrology, the 5th House deals with Children aka putra-stanam. It is usually used to predict if there is any possibility of a native having kids or not.
Before the 5th house is examined, it is very important to determine the probability of progeny using the calculations shown below. The strength for Beeja (Male) and Kshetra (Female) are to be checked from Rashi chart. Kshetra MUST BE EVEN to be fertile. Beeja MUST BE ODD to have a strong seed for pro-creation. Even when the 5th house on both male & female charts is strong, still, there is a possibility for not having any children due to the existence of bad yoga specifically on 5th House.
If Saturn is a malefic planet and is in 4th House, it Spoils or Destroys or Activates the 5th House. If malefic Saturn is in 2nd house, it NOT only rules that house (Kutumbha-stanam), it also creates ups & downs in 5th (Putrastnam) house. For both these conditions, the chances for the Native to have off-springs are very slim.

Finally, using the known BSP (Bhrigu Sarala Padathi) rules, check if any Malefic is affecting the 5th House and Lord of the 5th House.
Though commonly females chart is the first one to be studied, if female is over 45 years, males chart takes precedence. In this case, check his longevity, Marakas (Cause of Death planets) and current Maha-Dasha and Antar-Dasha planets.

Procedure to predict progeny
All the explanation for the calculations are available in detail in the book titled How to Judge Horoscope Vol 1 written by Late. B. V. Raman.
Kshetra Calculations:
Moon is Matru-karaka, Jupiter is Karaka for Marriage for Females and Mars controls the flow of blood.
To calculate the Kshetra, add the longitudes of Mars, Moon and Jupiter. Subtract from this sum, a multiple of 360 degrees, so that the final difference is less than 360 degrees. Use this to find out Zodiac Sign. This is either odd or even sign. For example: Moon = 47D33M , Mars = 290D47M and Jupiter = 217D02M,
the sum is 555D22M, take away 360D then its 195D22m. So, the Kshetra will be 7th Zodiac Sign (Libra) with 15 deg 22 mins. (6*30 = 180 it completed all 6 signs). Libra is ODD sign.

As soon as the Kshetra is calculated, if Rahu is in Kshetra zodiac sign in Rashi or Navamsa chart , the probability of conception is very low. At this point, there is no need to calculate Beeja or any further analysis is not required. If malefic Saturn is in Kshetra zodiac sign in Rashi or Navamsa chart, the probability of conception is very low.
Beeja Calculations:
Sun is pitru-karaka, Jupiter is Karaka for Marriage for Females and Venus is the Karaka for Marriage for Males.
To calculate the Beeja, add the longitudes of Sun, Venus and Jupiter. Subtract from this sum, a multiple of 360 degrees, so that the final difference is less than 360 degrees. Use this to find out Zodiac Sign. This is either odd or even sign. For example: Sun = 182D38, Venus is 137D12 and Jupiter is 355D12, The sum is 675D02, take away 360D then its 315D02m. So, the Beeja will be 11th Zodiac Sign (Aquarius) with 15 deg 02 mins. (10*30 = 300 it completed all 10 signs). Aquarius is ODD sign.

Analysing different charts:
The different charts that are to be considered for analysis are: Rashi, Navamsa (D-9), Sapthamsa (D-7), Moon as lagna, 5th Lord as lagna and Jupiter as lagna.
The information to be gathered for analysis from each chart are:
Planets in 5th house: List the planets here. Identify if the Planets are Masculine , Feminine or Hermaphrodite Lord of 5th house: Benefic/Malefic, is in Odd/Even Sign, Movable/Common/Fixed sign 5th house Lord in house : In which house is the 5th Lord residing and the house characteristics 5th house Lord conjoined with : List the planets here. Identify if the Planets are Masculine , Feminine or Hermaphrodite The currents dasha also need to be considered during various charts analysis. For example: If the current dasha is Rahu then check the antardahas. Rahu/Jupiter, Rahu/Moon and Rahu/Mars are the first possibilities (remember we used them to calculate the Kshetras).

If Moon /Mars/Jupiter are Benefics and Exalted, then their Dashas or Antardashas are guaranteed.
If Moon /Mars/Jupiter is the Lord of 5th House and a benefic and/or NOT ASPECTED by malefic (include Rahu/Ketu here), then their Dashas or Antardashas are guaranteed.
Finally, validate known BSP rules and yogas pertaining to 5th house.
