of The Second Georgian-Iranian International Scholarly
Conference
/November 27-30, 2012/
The Second Georgian-Iranian International Scholarly Conference,
organized by Saint Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of
the Patriarchate of Georgia, is held within the framework of a
dialogue of civilizations. The goal of the conference is to analyze
the values of Orthodoxy and Islam, demonstration of GeorgianIranian cultural relations, to discuss the state of the confessions
existing in Georgia, as well as demonstration of Georgian tolerance
and attitude of the Georgian people towards other ethnic and
religious minorities.
6

In the 21st century there is no longer the issue:

Confrontation or cooperation of civilization; in the modern
world dialogue and cooperation have no alternative. Saint
Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of
Georgia and the University of Jamaat Almustafa take one more
worthy step in this direction.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia

Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi,
Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia,
His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II:
I think, at the beginning of the 21st I century it is still urgent to
create such a model a dialogue of civilizations that will allow
15

people to unite efforts in order to solve global and local issues. At

present everyone is aware that the time of solving problems by force
methods has gone; today they are already replaced by economic and
cultural factors; however, in this case too, it is necessary to be very
careful, so that not to allow them become a basis for another
confrontation, but to promote the process of mutual cultural
enrichment and economic benefit.
/Quotation from a speech
delivered at Istanbul International Conference Peace and
Tolerance, November 7-9, 2005/
