Epoxy Plastics epoxy resins were first introduced in 1947.

Properties of these plastics include excellent adhesion, toughness, chemical resistance and high bonding strength. In addition, they displayexcellent electrical properties. A hardening or curing age nt, usually anamine, acid, acid anhydride or dicyandiamide, is mixed in with the resinat the time of use to establish the desired curing time. These resinsdispl ay freedom from reaction by-products or volatiles during hardening. This allows t he making of relatively large castings.Epoxy resins can be used as coatings to p rovide protection againstchemical attack and corrosion. In addition, these coati ngs provide goodwaterproofing, wear resistance and abrasion resistance. The epox y-bonded glass molding materials are used for making high-strength, high-electri cal insulation pipe fittings and auto components. In the fiberglassreinforced fi eld, epoxy resins produce extremely high strength materials.A typical applicatio n would be high-strength vessels and tanks
