Lace Scarf
By Cynical Knitter Designs
I thought the zig zag look of this pattern was a little like when a player,
say Terry Bradshaw, is running down the field with the ball for the win-
ning touchdown! The yarn overs are the fans, or the yard lines. One
could go a little zany with the symbolism. Enjoy!
Materials:
Fingering or sock weight yarn, hand dyed Steelers colors (or your fa-
vorite team colors). I imagine that it would also look pretty in a solid.
I used Spindle Cat Studios Tabbioca.
Gauge:
Is not terribly important, but you do want to be sure that your non
yarn-over stitches are close together so the yo’s are more pronounced.
This said, if you like it looser, don’t let me stop you!
Pattern Notes:
The pattern is a modification of a stitch from Barbara Walker’s A Treasury of Knitting Patterns School-
house Press, 1998.
There is a knit 1, yarn over at the beginning of every Right Side (RS) row and a yarn over, knit1 at the
end of every Right Side (RS) row.
Most Wrong Side (WS) rows will be purled except for the first and last stitches, those are knitted.
Think in groups of seven. The purl ridges are at intervals of 7 and 14 yarn overs. I like symmetry, so
I did them that way. You can lengthen the scarf or make it shorter by eliminating one grouping of the
pattern and purl ridge. It’s easier than it seems...try it.
CO 42 loosely
Row 1 (and all RS rows) k1 * yo, k3, ssk, yo, sl 1-k2tog-psso, yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k1; rep from *
Row 2 (and all WS rows except those listed below) k1, purl across to last stitch, k1
Rows 15, 43, 57, 85, 99, 113, 141, 169, 197, 225, 253, 267, 281, 309, 323, 351 knit across
Finishing: I like a nice soak and lay flat with pins to block, you can choose your method.
