Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations and
Neighbourhood Policy, Mr. Javier Solana High Commissioner for Foreign Policy and
Common Security EU, will visiting Egypt to attend the enlarged meeting of the
Conference of Iraq's neighboring countries to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh from May 2
to 4, 2007. This, and both will arrive in Egypt on Thursday, May 3. They will, in
addition to participating in the conference, holding bilateral meetings with key
officials in the region.
The EU Medd active for Iraq The European Commission has allocated a sum capacity
of 720 million euros to help in humanitarian efforts and the reconstruction of Iraq
since 2003. The most important thing was to focus on is support for basic services;
support the political process, including the electoral processes in its various forms, as
well as assist Iraqi efforts to build capacity. Also, the European Commission opened
negotiations with Iraq to conclude an agreement for trade and cooperation, which will

humanitarian aid to Iraq. In 2006, the European Commission has allocated to the
United Nations 10 million euros for Iraqis displaced inside Iraq. In February 2007, the
European Commission announced the allocation of another $ 10.2 million euros for
Iraqis displaced inside and outside Iraq. The amount will be allocated 6.2 million

euros for Iraqi refugees who have fled to neighboring countries such as Syria, Jordan
and Lebanon, while will be allocated 4 million euros for individuals displaced within
Iraq.
The scope of the rule of law and human rights, the European Commission provided
the necessary training for officials in senior management and investigation of crimes.
Have been trained more than 1,000 senior Iraqi officials from the police and judicial
sectors and prisons in the European Union.
The European Commission will continue to support Iraq and its people and the Iraqi
administration as well. The Commission has provided 200 million euros to help Iraq
from 2007 to 2010. Assistance will include continued support for basic services; build
the capacity of the Iraqi administration; support the policy process; and cooperation in
the field of energy and humanitarian support.
