Would-be suicide bomber turns himself in

By Indonesia correspondent George Roberts Updated Tue Sep 11, 2012 12:35am AEST A would-be suicide bomber has handed himself in to Indonesian police instead of blowing himself up on Monday as planned. Muhammad Thorik had been on the run since last Thursday when explosives, bomb manuals and devices packed with nails were found at his house in Jakarta. Neighbours led police to the stash after a fire started at the house and they came to investigate. Thorik had fled, leaving his mother, wife and son behind. On Monday he surrendered, saying he missed his family. Police say he has confessed that he was to blow himself up on Monday, targeting any of four sites in central Jakarta - the tactical police headquarters, the anti-terrorist squad Detachment 88, a police station or Buddhist community headquarters. Since the end of last month, Indonesian authorities have arrested five terrorist suspects, shot two dead and two bomb labs have blown up by mistake. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-10/would-be-suicide-bomber-turns-himself-in/4253206
