Following the revocation by Chulalongkorn University Council of the PhD degree of the Director of Thailand's National Innovation Agency (NIA), Supachai Lorlowhakarn, on grounds of plagiarism, South Bangkok District Court reached a verdict on 8 August 2012 in a criminal forgery case case filed by Mr William Wyn Ellis, a former consultant to the National Innovation Agency. The suit alleged that Supachai Lorlowhakarn had forged Ellis' employment contract at NIA. The court convicted Supachai and imposed a sentence of 6 months' jail, suspended for 1 year, and a 6,000 Baht fine.
