Call out the individual sounds /p/ /th/ /ng/ /d/ /igh/ /sh/ /b/ /ch// w/ /v/ and let the children highlight the letter that corresponds to the sound
Reading practise For parents: Ask your child to read the sentences below. Point out that a sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Let the children highlight the following sound in the word. /ar/ /air/ /ur//ear/ /oo/ /ee//ck/ /oi/ /ng/ /igh/ 1. Jill has fair hair but Jack has dark hair. 2. I can hear an owl hoot at night. 3. Bow down to the king and queen.
4. I can see a pair of boots on the mat. 5. Tim has seven silver coins. 6. Nan is sitting in the rocking-chair. 7. Gurdeep had a chat with his dad. 8. It has been hot this year. Instruction for parents: On the back of this sheet ask the child to draw the following. 1. Draw a house in the middle of the paper 2. Draw a sun on the upper right side of the paper 3. Draw a tree next to the house 4. Draw a pond below the sun 5. Write your name on the roof of the house. Note: The importance of this exercise is not drawing but listening and following instructions.
