Introduction

In the typical apparel and footwear business world it is common to have different tax rates for different
size ranges. For example, some countries have reduced tax rate for kid's sizes where as adult sizes are
fully taxed. Therefore this functionality has been built in SAP AFS (IS-AFS) to maintain size wise prices as
well as size wise tax classifications.
As we all know, the tax rate (Eg: 18%, 10%) in the sales order is determined based on the tax condition
master record maintained in transaction VK11. This record is maintained for the combination of
customer tax classification and material tax classification. Customer tax classification is maintained in
the customer master / sales area data / Billing Documents tab. In the standard SAP environment, you
maintain the material tax classification in the material master "Sales: Sales Org. Data 1" tab. But in that
field you do not have a provision to maintain tax classifications per each size.
Therefore SAP has provided a solution to maintain tax classifications at size level based on Grid control
data. This is available only in SAP AFS (IS-AFS).
Pre-requisites
You need to define the tax condition as AFS size dependent.
IMG Path:

AFS Grid determination
This functionality is also using the famous condition technique, where you have procedure, condition
types, access sequence and condition tables.
Create Grid Condition Tables
Always check what is available in SAP standard before creating your own table.
IMG Path:

Create your own table between 501 and 999.
Double click on the field from the column to add a specific field to
section

Once you finish adding, click on the button
You need to select the correct development package, if you want the table to be transported to
a different client.
After successful table generation, you should receive a message as below

Define access sequence
IMG Path:

Create your own access sequence using button
Give a ID and a description

Highlight the newly created "Access Sequence" and double click on node
Use button to add tables to the access sequence

Once table are added pleas make sure you select each table and double click on the node
. If you don't do this step, your access sequence will not work properly!

Once this is done for all tables, save the access sequence

Define grid control condition type
IMG Path:

Create your own condition type using button

Define Grid Determination Procedure
IMG Path:

Create your own grid determination procedure

Attach condition types in the node

Save the procedure
Assign grid determination procedure to article master

Like in pricing procedure assignment, there is no assignment for grid determination procedure, under
configuration. This is directly assigned to the article master. In SAP AFS, when creating articles, you need
to assign the grid determination procedure in to the article master under "AFS Basic Data" tab

Create size level tax classification
Transaction: J3AN
Easy Access path:

Select your grid control condition type

Select the correct access level you need. Based on the access sequence attached to condition
type, this popup will display

Enter relevant data

Highlight the line and click on the button

From the below screen select the button option

From the popup select the option " Tax classification for Size" an press

For the sizes (Grid values) which has reduced tax, maintain the correct tax classification

Full tax is having the tax classification "1" where as reduced tax (Half) is having tax classification "2"

As per above, size "GRN" and "BLU" has reduced tax classification and the "RED" has full tax
classification.
Save your grid control master record
Create tax master record
Transaction: VK11
Now you need to make sure you have created VK11 condition master record for correct tax classification
combination

Test scenario

Now let's create a sales order with these 3 sizes and see how the tax has been determined

Those 2 sizes with reduced tax classification got the tax percentage 10% where as the other size with full
tax classification got 18%.
Let's see how the "Condition Analysis" shown this;

Now If I go to each size, I can see how the tax classification has been used;
o For size "BLU" & "GRN" -> Tax classification of the material is "2"

For size "RED" -> Tax classification of the material is "1"
