About this ebook
'Afraid, sister?’ Luther leaned in closer and the stench of him made her gag. ‘You should be.’
New Londinium, the capital of the United Republic of Britannia, is the birthplace of the “clean steam” era and a haven for free-thinkers, progressives, and intellectuals. Its government relies solely on the advice of the Council of Danaeus, a collective of the world's pre-eminent scientists and inventors, to formulate the policies that make this city the most celebrated in the world. Yet something sinister is invading New Londinium - an immortality cult whose machinations to enslave all but a chosen few threaten to transform the city from a beacon of hope to a flagship of misery.
So when the impoverished but undaunted Viola Winslow discovers her dead brother in a state of reanimation, she requests the assistance of renowned female inventor, Doctor Parthena Ripley, and her feisty sister, Artemis Ripley Devereaux, to save him. However, it’s not until Doctor Corazon Paget, the grand dame of the Council, disappears in suspicious circumstances and a series of explosions rock New Londinium that Parthena, Artemis and Viola begin to understand the deadly game in play.
“...an eclectic blend of science fiction, fantasy and steampunk” (Elizabeth Foster, author)
Karen Bayly
Karen Bayly was born in Sydney, Australia. She's been an actor, director, musician (new wave and classical) and scientist. However, no matter what else she's done, she's also written - stories, songs, screenplays. Although she's delved into non-fiction and written agricultural, medical and scientific articles and e-books, fiction is where her heart lies. She loves to create worlds and tell stories and find it near impossible to restrict herself to just one genre. Karen's first novel, "Fortitude", has just been published by Mary Celeste Press, and she's had numerous short stories published in print and online journals. She is currently writing her second novel, a YA fantasy. She's also written three screenplays - one long, two short. One of these, "The Reconciled", made the quarterfinals of Screencraft's Short Screenplay Competition 2016 and a short story titled "Daphne's Dance" made the quarterfinals of Screencraft's Short Story Competition 2016. She loves science and has qualifications in biology and ethology. When not writing, she unwinds with photography. She adores animals and has a huge gooey spot for cats, horses, and birds. Although an avid fan of science fiction and fantasy TV and film, she also appreciates serious drama - just not in her own life.
