About this ebook

Santiago, Chile, police detective Carla Cortes, martial arts expert and cage fighter, fighting under the name "The Mighty Midget", is framed for the murder of Franco Gonzalez, the prime suspect in the killing in1986 of a prominent Mapuche (indigenous Chilean citizen) businessman, Doctor Nahuel Millaman, in his Santiago home by unknown assailants. She is sentenced to twenty years imprisonment.
Carla, together with detectives Diego Salinas and Fernando Arava had been assigned to investigate the Millaman murder. During the investigation at Millaman's house an identity document belonging to a taxi driver, Franco Gonzalez, was found. Gonzalez was arrested but claimed that he had been mugged and his identity card stolen and planted at the murder scene.
The three detectives were under a great deal of pressure to solve the case and an altercation took place between Carla and her two colleagues over the use of force to get Gonzalez to admit to being an accomplice in the murder. When Carla was called out of the interrogation cell to answer a telephone call, Diego and Fernando murdered Gonzalez and successfully framed Carla.
The telephone call that Carla left the interrogation cell to take was from one of her informers Pablo "Clipper" Torres who urgently needed to see Carla as he had vital information regarding the Millaman murder. Carla was jailed before she could meet with Clipper who then disappeared.
Carla receives amnesty four years later when Chile returns to democracy after the Augusto Pinochet reign of terror and she and an old school friend, Felipe Ortega, set up a legal consultancy.
One evening when Carla is walking home from work an attempt is made to assassinate her. She survives and sets out to find Clipper. She traces him to a house in the vast Raul Silva squatter camp in Santiago but when she reaches the house she finds Clipper murdered. Carla fails to discover who Clipper's attackers were except that they weren't her former detective colleagues Diego Salinas and Fernando Arava whom she had previously suspected of attempting to kill her and of murdering Clipper.
Sometime later an attempt is made to kidnap Carla but her outsized friend, Lucia Silva, thwarts the attempt and the kidnappers escape.
Carla finds an ally in Subinspector Renata Jara who is investigating Carla's attempted murder. Carla, Lucia and Renata set out to expose the mysterious force that is determined to eliminate Carla. All they can do is entice the enemy to make a mistake that they can use to move closer to discovering the mystery of Doctor Millaman's murder, Clipper's murder and the attempts to kidnap and murder Carla; a very dangerous tactic that could cost Carla her life.
