      Introduction

      Life tends to maneuver us into categories, into penciled-in bubbles on the random identification form. Some of them we like; some we don’t. Some we actively seek out and continue to pursue; some are sitting there waiting for us and won’t turn us loose.

      But one thing we all know: deep inside these simple boxes and check marks reside entire worlds crawling with complication, challenge, and difficulty. Even if easy to get into, they are rarely so easy to faithfully, successfully, and steadily keep going through.

      As a teacher, for instance, you may often feel inadequate to the tasks placed on you or ahead of you. Your days are likely full of activity yet can still feel unfinished. You finally feel like you are getting through to a class or student, and the school year ends. You try maximizing the jobs your particular boxes entail, yet they maddeningly resist being colored all the way to the edges.

      The reason this book exists is because God’s grace never met a check box it couldn’t fill with hope, peace, direction, and perspective—with motivation, counsel, freedom, and opportunity. This book is here, and is now yours, because the Bible not only speaks timelessly to everyone but specifically to you . . . with grace. God’s grace. Sufficient to every place. Even to the places you’re living this very moment.

      Anger

      In the classroom, there may be many moments that provoke anger, but the key is to speak and act with love.

      Refrain from anger and give up your rage;

      do not be agitated—it can only bring harm.

      Anxiety

      Beneath the anxieties that torment us is a need to feel in control of our circumstances—but our peace is found in remembering that the Creator of the whole universe has us safely in the palm of His hand.

      Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add one moment to his life-span by worrying?
