Getting Motivation - A. I. Abana
INTRODUCTION
I
t can be described
or substituted by many other words like enthusiasm, gas
, zeal, fervor, charge
, drive, passion, interest … and so on, a key thing that can make or break a person’s commitment to a venture, that magical factor that spurs on against formidable odds—motivation.
Motivation is as you may already know or are soon to discover a linchpin of sorts to unprecedented productivity. The presence or lack of motivation is often a deciding factor in how a person gets to start, work through and end their endeavors.
If you are not motivated, your productivity can go south regardless of your latent prowess. This is especially so at the beginnings of some endeavors or ventures where the dividends or rewards of a person’s efforts are not immediately birthed, where trials, obstacles and challenges can come potent enough to thwart the pursuit of a promising venture. At such times a person can get the urge to give up, at such times a person may run out of obvious reasons to stay the course. It is at such times that the power of motivation stands tallest.
That a person is motivated to continue or even improve what they do regardless of circumstance is the substance at the core of many success stories. You may think of motivation as faith or vice versa and not be wrong.
Seeing then that motivation is thus crucial and relevant, it behooves us to endeavor to understand it with a view to acquiring, maintaining and enhancing it whenever and wherever it is needlessly in dearth. How would you like to cut through chores as though they weren’t tasking? How would you like your work rote and obligations done with more vigor than your antagonists or traducers think possible, fulfilling tasks and achieving goals you have envisaged? If you would have any of those; your understanding of motivation—what things kindle it, what things make it thrive and what things kill
it, can come in useful.
Regardless of what activity you are unto, such knowledge is important and at worst handy. Without such knowledge, your ability to pinpoint precisely what is dampening your enthusiasm and draining your drive to do things you know you are to do might be hampered. If you can’t identify the things causing and contributing to your down days
, your productivity can be at the mercy of waiting-it-out
in order to replenish and pick up your zeal and with that can go your expected goals and earmarked targets.
People who understand motivation are better placed to optimize their performance on just about any given endeavor. Although important, it’s not enough to just have motivation alone or to tell someone to get motivation
because that’s what many folks would tell you—that you need motivation.
What you may not get to hear and what you need to know is the "how of getting motivated—even at will. To know this, you might need to study and understand some written
anatomy of this powerful factor—motivation; one detailing things that stir it to life, hold it together or quench it when put to play. Such an
anatomy" revealing in detail the complex of motivation is what you are about to read.
CHAPTER ONE
GOAL OR PURPOSE
N
ot many things can
dampen, nay, destroy motivation like a sudden realization that the end of an endeavor is futile or that the results to be expected from efforts spent are not worth it. It is important that some goal is in view, that some gratifying purpose is in sight. This is because the affinity and desire for the attainment of such an end goal may keep a person going regardless of
