      Call Me Crazy

      Yes, the following adventure is a bit wild, and at times you’ll wonder if I’ve truly lost my marbles. But keep in mind this is based on the original picture book of the same name. Much of the craziness is resident there, too. This time, I’ve just extended the lines.

      Like Crunch Berries? Well, you’re in for quite a bit of them, so without further ado, here’s the novelization (ok, novelette-ization) of the original picture book.

      Chapter 1: Crazy

      Chapter 1: Crazy

      I’d wanted a dog for some time now. Heck, I wanted a whole pack of them. When we lived in the apartment, every weekend we’d visit the pet store at the mall and I’d beg my mom for a puppy. My mom grew up with dogs and cats. My grandma, too. But when we moved into our new house, which had twice as many bedrooms as the apartment, mom still wouldn’t buy a dog. Why not? I asked. She kept putting it off. Perhaps next month became perhaps next year. She should have known that one way or another I’d get a pet of my own, even if I had to find one in the woods out back.

      But I never expected one to find me.

      After one fateful morning, I began to think that mom had a point. Pets were a lot of work, and at times, annoying.

      What the heck? I jumped back in my bed. I’d just woken up, only to find the frog’s big, red eyes staring at me. He was wearing my mom’s glasses, which made his eyes look even bigger. How long have you been watching me? I asked.

      Just five minutes. The frog checked his watch. Wait a minute... He checked again. Or five hours.

      Five hours? I sat up.

      Yeah, man. I’m hungry. So what do you say, pal? He rubbed his big jelly belly.

      But I fed you before you went to sleep last night.

      Yeah, but that was just pizza.

      A whole pizza! You ate one by yourself, while mom and I couldn’t even finish half of the other.

      Isn’t buy one, get one free the best? He smiled. What can I say? I’m a growing frog. His stomach rumbled so loud that even the neighbors could hear it.
