About this ebook

There are many people who are enthusiastic about food—the cooking of it, the preparation of it, the serving of it, and let's not forget the eating of it.

But Andrew Delaplaine is the ultimate Food Enthusiast.

This is another of his books with spot-on reviews of the most exciting restaurants in town. Some will merit only a line or two, just to bring them to your attention. Others deserve a half page or more.

"Exciting" does not necessarily mean expensive. The area's top spots get the recognition they so richly deserve (and that they so loudly demand), but there are plenty of "sensible alternatives" for those looking for good food handsomely prepared by cooks and chefs who really care what they "plate up" in the kitchen.

For those with a touch of Guy Fieri, Delaplaine ferrets out the best food for those on a budget. That dingy looking dive bar around the corner may serve up one of the juiciest burgers in town, perfect to wash down with a locally brewed craft beer.

Whatever your predilection or taste, cuisine of choice or your budget, you may rely on Andrew Delaplaine not to disappoint.

Delaplaine dines anonymously at the Publisher's expense. No restaurant listed in this series has paid a penny or given so much as a free meal to be included.

    Introduction

I CAN’T THINK OF ANYWHERE else in the world where all the beauties of Nature merge in such eye-popping splendor. Nowhere do snow-topped mountains, blue waters and green spaces comingle so effortlessly.

If you’re an atheist, seeing Vancouver for the first time is almost enough to send you to your knees to thank the Almighty for putting this place on Earth. Surely this is what He must have had in mind when he created the world, because it couldn’t be any prettier or more striking than it is. (About what He did with the rest of the world, I won’t say anything.)

HERE IN THE CITY OF Glass, it’s hard to go anywhere without seeing reflections of the snow-covered North Shore Mountains in the distance.

Now, we’ve all seen natural wonders like the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. They’re really everywhere in the world. What makes Vancouver different? Perhaps it’s the fact the 2 million people in the Metro area haven’t fouled the place and turned it into the trash dump that so many other great cities have turned into. (Drive into Mexico City from the airport or any number of other cities in the world and you’ll see what I mean.)

The people who live here really care about their city. They’re very green, to the point that a lot of stores won’t give you plastic bags to carry away your goods. They don’t just talk about the environment here, they care about it and do something about it.
