About this ebook

The year is 2055 and a successful gold mining operation has been set up on the Moon.

Everything proceeded efficiently, while enhanced by the discovery of helium-3, until a nearly impenetrable metal plate, while buried three miles under the lunar surface, stops the profitable drilling.

After several failed attempts to cut through the plate, a way around it is sought, which provokes a technologically advanced alien species to defend their thousands of years, old, operation.

Marsell Morris

Marsell was born in Detroit Michigan in the year of... well, a good while ago. After graduating from Cass Technical High School, Marsell went to work for the Chrysler Corporation as a conveyor loader. Shortly after beginning his employment with Chrysler, he married, and fathered three children. Thirty-one years later, and after having gained the position of production supervisor, he retired at fifty. After retiring, he began playing golf everyday and all day. Having lowered his handicap to near scratch, and winning a tournament at even par, and behind a debilitating injury, he was unable to continue playing. He had a lot of free time on his hands, whereupon, he took up writing as a hobby and time killer and discovered he had talent for spinning a yarn. After pounding out eleven urban fictions, covering everything from drug use, prostitution, gang crime, murder, and romance/erotica, and having always been a science fiction fan from his teenage years, he thought he’d try his hand at writing a Sci-Fi tail, which culminated in his first work “Alien Plot - First Contact” now retitled "Alien Offensive - Nanobot Storm" and its four sequels, and which, at one time before he ran into problems with its publisher, was considered good fodder for production as a movie, not because he is such a great writer, but because of its unique, previously unexplored, plot.He still lives in Detroit, and being a compulsive writer, he spends most of his time wearing out his fourth keyboard replacement, while pursuing what he loves doing — writing more tails with unique story lines.

    Chapter 1

Are you positive, Adrian? Do you know what a discovery like that can produce? asked, Mr. Gene, Taylor, the head selenologist of the Lunar Mining Company's, geology department. If it is what you think, it's worth forty times the value of gold. Go and run the test again to make sure.

I've run the test on our last shipment of regolith, twice, Sir. I even ran a sample through the electron microscope and there is no doubt, isotopes of Helium-3 worth $40,000 per ounce are definitely present. Listen, if you don't trust my analysis, why don't you send a sample out to be examined?

Oh, no. We can't do that. A discovery of this magnitude has to remain secret inside our company. If it did slip out that we've found a valuable isotope on the moon. An isotope that is very rare on Earth. The next thing you know, there will be twenty companies competing with us for the right to mine the moon. I just want to be sure of the find before I bring it up before the board. So, please run the test one more time, for me, please."

Okay, boss. One more time. I should have a result in a couple hours.

Great, Adrian. Let's hope you get the same finding. In the mean time, and because I trust your skills, I'll begin composing my presentation for the board meeting. If everything is as you said, we both are in for big bonuses.

Well, go ahead and plan how you're going to spend the money, because I'm positive there is Helium-3 in the last sample, and a lot of it at that, Adrian, said, as he left Mr. Taylor's office.

Back in the company's lab, Adrian removed a grain of moon dirt, better know as, regolith, from a small canister. It was the most recent sample sent down from the moon to be analyzed. Of course preliminary analysts of the samples are performed on the moon before shipping them down to Earth, but, because the lunar labs are sparsely equipped, those examinations are rudimentary and would not have found Helium-3.

He skipped the fundamental steps of analysts and went straight to the scanning electron microscope for sub-nanometer resolution of the particle.

Placing the sample in the machine, he turned it on. Inside the microscope, while in a vacuum, a focused electron beam scanned over the surface of the sample to create an image. The electrons in the beam interacted with the sample, producing various signals that are used to obtain information about the topography and composition of the sample.

The results of the scan are then recorded as a graph that is projected on a read out monitor with each spike representing various elements. The higher the spike, the higher the concentration of an element or isotope.

After studying the familiar graph for the third time, and seeing the helilum-3 spike above all others, Adrian, said, to himself, I told him I was right. He then thought, there is definitely Helium-3 in this sample and judging by the size of this spike, way more than I thought. Now, maybe we can kick this company into high gear,
