      Preface

      Chaotic adversities taught me to look for solutions instead of failure and blame. My initial goal after graduation, age 40 something was to break the glass ceiling. Instead, I found myself in a classroom until my own retirement. It was then that I began to recall and chronicle simple observations during my lifetime on the profound effect of God’s love.

      Those written observations seem to have universal connection and add discovery to the tremendous ongoing troubles of those beings of S-AGE (senior-age). I found as I grow older that simplicity is a wonderful turnkey attitude. It seems to be that at my simplest, whether in clothing, conversation or deed, I am the most complex, and that names are more than purposed identification. Those fascinating discoveries led to the ultimate creation of Zeke Whitefield and his journey to Gracious Servant Leadership. ZEKE’s first name, by the way, owns up to his being-Zealously, Enthused, Kinda’, Educated and Whitefield, I’ll talk about later over a cup of betterment refreshment.

      Introduction

      It was the Baby Boomer’s Generation of bargain wealth in the large economy size, known as the 5 and 10 Stores. A relative place of stature to socialize, eat burgers and buy candy to the Wahzoo for a whopping 5 or 10 cents. This book in that same manner of wealth conveys in ten short chapters the human perplexities of the foreseen plight of those who grow older; yet, written with plausible explanation.

      There are so many fights to which the elderly must contend. Tiny issues begin as flakes of intrusion, but then later snowball into just pure casualty. It is increasingly difficult to overcome thoughts of discontent when life’s balance is a constant juggle at any age. Zeke always felt it would be easy to navigate the waters of growing old gracefully, but for Zeke, that was a huge oversight.

      Zeke Whitefield, a Northern resident with an acquired Southern soul, lives within the primary confines of his own personal maturation. His poignant, yet sometimes, humorous account of the aging process is a reflective combination of narrative lived by many older folks in
