    GUNDAGA ISLAND

    Here we come… .

    CHAPTER ONE

I T WAS ALMOST SUMMERTIME AGAIN and the eleven cousins were looking forward to getting together again for an adventurous time. In actuality we should say the seven cousins because the twins now aged two being far too young and Camden and Makenzie aged six and four would find it difficult to keep up with the faster pace of the older ones. Their grand mother Gran Lizie although they all just call her Lizie lives on the shores of Gundaga beach in a cute little stone cottage overlooking the sea and Gundaga Island. The island is not too far away and can easily be reached by boat over the shallower spanse of water which would take around fifteen minutes and once there the rocky inlets and caves would await to be explored.

Yes shouted Christian the eldest of the eleven. No more homework for a good two months his blue green eyes dancing with glee.

Mom, when shall we start packing our things? asked Cole.

Well I should say chirped in Caleb right now as tomorrow we are going to Gran Lizies’ place for two whole weeks. Mom agreed that now was a good time to get their things together ready for an early start in the morning.

Bother said Catrin, I cannot find my favorite pink shorts, mom have you seen them?

I thought that I had put them in your room Catrin, go and look again honey said her mom. So they busily carried on stuffing their canvas bags to the brims, most importantly not forgetting the bathers. Camden the youngest of the five C’s had packed his bag but not with clothes but his favorite toys!

Camden you need to re-pack that bag, you play with toys not wear them said Caleb. Camden sulked at his older more serious brother but did as he was told. Meanwhile at Sam and Abbeys’ house much the same was going on packing up and exciting chatter about their up-coming vacation.

Hey Sam, do you think that we will have some good adventures at Lizies’ place?

Think so said her brother, I think that if we can find an old row boat we could plan to go out to Gundaga Island to explore.

Gosh Sam that sounds so exciting and to be with our cousins too.

With very active thoughts the two of them continued to pack up their things.

I wonder how Maddie and Kenzies’ packing is coming along, shall we call them Sam? asked Abbey.

Better not until everything is done here he said, then we can call them.

You’re right replied Abbey, oh I do love having an older brother like you Sam.

Time for supper you two up there, it’s pepperoni pizza your favorite shouted their mom. So with that they both raced down the stairs as kids do to see who would get to the dinner table first.

Mom asked Sam, can we call Maddie and Kenzie when we have eaten?

Sure you can said their mom, I hope that they are all packed up by now as you two have done, good job kids.

Yes said their dad, I think that you have remembered everything even the life jackets. Sam and Caleb are both eleven and make a good team together.

I need to call Caleb too said Sam but first let’s call Maddie and Kenzie he said to Abbey.

"Well are you all ready for an exciting two weeks at Lizies’ place? Sam asked his cousins.

You bet was the reply, I can hardly wait to see Gundaga beach, Lizies’ cottage as it’s the best and of course our dear Lizie.

Madison do you have all your things together? asked her mom.

Yep replied Maddie, and I am about to bring my bag down to put at the front door. Oh musn’t forget my i-pod too she thought… .

Mommy shouted Kenzie, do I need my sweaters for the trip?

    No dear you don’t.

Now let me see thought the little girl, I will need my Santa doll, my fish and my good-night book which sings lullabyes to me and with that she stuffed them all into her gaily colored bag.

Kenzie hopes to spend alot of her time on Gundaga beach with Lizie and Camden digging around in the sand finding colorful shells to add to her collection.

Kenzie it is summertime almost and we only wear sweaters in the winter.

OK, I get it and continued to mess around in her room instead of zipping up her bag and placing it at the top of the stairs. Eventually it would end up at the front door with Maddies’ when mom had a moment.

The next morning dawned at around six and looked to be a warm late spring day in early June. The smell of bacon, eggs and hash browns filtered through the kitchen of the five C’s and the
