Kylie Anderson

This book was written by my mother, Joyce Bass, many years ago. I always thought she should publish it. My mother has since passed but I’m sure she would be delighted to see her manuscript finally published. Mrs. Bass was a second grade teacher for 36 years in Shelby, Michigan. She taught at Thomas Reed Elementary school and was very well liked by her students and the staff there. She loved her students and would make learning fun for everyone. On our family hikes up in Ludington she would catch small chameleons and place one on her brightly colored blouse. The students were fascinated by the chameleon’s changing colors as it crawled around on her blouse. She also knit miniature bookmark mittens for all the children. My mother would hatch eggs in her classroom incubator every Spring and my brother and I loved to play with the baby ducks, chickens, quail, or pheasants. I loved my mother and was very proud of her as a teacher. Years after her retirement, former students and friends of mine would share with me memories of their experiences in my mother’s classroom. Proud daughter, Jean Bass Thomas Kylie Anderson was born in Berkeley, California but spent most of her childhood in Shawnee, Colorado. She is working to complete her studies in studio art at Colorado College, which has included courses in painting, sculpture, and architecture. This is the first children's book that Kylie has illustrated, though she works also as a volunteer illustrator for the student published Cipher Magazine.
