About this ebook

It is an order of God that we must spread out His Name and tell the whole
world about Him. I am not a good speaker, but we must do God's will.
That is why I wrote this book. It is easy written for each and everyone
to enjoy and listen what God wants to tell us through His Word. When
I wrote this book, I could feel the Holy Spirit works inside of me with
every piece that was written. It was an awesome experience. This book is
written from the bottom of my heart and it is not about the money, but to
win souls for our Lord and Saviour. Enjoy it and take it to heart.

Grab the Day with God
Author

Betsie du Rand

As the youngest of three children, I grew up and went to school in the mall town of Bredasdorp. This town is situated near the southernmost tip of Africa. After fi nishing school, I studied Catering and Public Relations at the College of Stellenbosch, after which I worked on wine farms. My husband and I married in December 2004. We stayed in Citrusdal, and a year later my brother was suddenly taken from us by Jesus. We then decided to return to Bredasdorp because I could not leave my parents alone to deal with the enormous trauma. We still live in Bredasdorp and have two lovely children, which was a blessing from God. I make jerkey and am raising my children while my husband is employed by Overberg Agri in Caledon. We are very happy and blessed.

Heavenly Father, first of all I want to express my deepest gratitude to you. When I embarked on this project, I felt you working through me and I was constantly aware of your presence. Every time before I wrote a section of daily reading, I first prayed for guidance. When I then picked up the pen, You spoke through the Holy Spirit to me and I then could commit it to paper. Without You I could not have written this book.

My brother Adam and his wife Hannelie—thanks for the financial contribution you made which made it possible for me to publish my book.

Jacques van den Berg—thanks that you were willing to translate my book into English. You are a wonderful child of God and may God richly bless you.

Xlibris Corporation who is printing, marketing and publishing my book—special thanks to Eden Marzado, publishing consultant, who rendered much advice and guidance on how to best publish this monograph.

    Dedicated to:

    My favorite brother (Dawie):

Although Jesus came to take you, you live on in my heart. I long for you so much and just want to say many thanks for the exemplary Christian that you were. Your example as a Christian had an impact on all of us, so that we are all much closer to God in the way we live. I love you very much and look forward to the day when we will be eternally together, with God!

    My husband and children:

Thank you for always being there for me. You were my motivation for writing this book. Droepie, thanks for your Christian example you set as head of our household—for the children and I. I love you all.

    Mom and Dad:

You have been so sorely afflicted and yet grow closer to God daily. Thank you for the wonderful example you set for us. You are like arch angels and I love you very dearly. Be of good courage, Jesus has a plan for us!

    Adam:

You are last on my list, but definitely not the least. Thank you for always being there for me and that I can always call on you to do something. Thanks also for the example that you, as Child of God, are in my life. Boeta is no longer with us, but I am still there for you. I look up to you and love you.

    Introduction

Our Father in heaven, may your Name hallowed, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us the wrong we have done, as we have forgiven those who have wronged us. And do not put us to the test, but save us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.

When you look at my book, you will notice that it is different from all other monographs containing daily reading, in that it is much less voluminous than similar publications, and that there is not really a section for every single day. Instead of there being 365 sections, there are only 104. I suppose you will wonder why I did it that way?

I wrote only 104 sections, because there are only 104 Mondays and Sundays in a year. This book has been written in such a way that you should and must read it only on Mondays and Sundays. Monday mornings to start your week and Sundays for ending your week. Now you may ask, Now what about the rest of the week?

My dear friend, the rest of the week you study only the Word of God, namely the Bible. I wrote this book only for Mondays and Sundays so that the Bible would not be neglected. Too many people read only a book containing daily reading instead of the Bible, and it is wrong. On the contrary, it should be the other way around. You should rather read the Bible than a book of daily reading. Therefore, only read my book on Mondays and Sundays, together with the Bible of course. And for the rest of the week, you read only your Bible.

I also want you to not only read the quoted verse which I am using in a section, but the entire section of Scripture, so that you may gain a clearer insight into the specific verse together with better background information.

Quotes from Holy Scripture in the Daily Reading are generally from the King James Version. You may certainly use any official translation.

Do enjoy this book, and I hope and pray that it will mean something to you and will bring you closer to God! God is great and He works in wonderful ways! I hope you find food for your soul through this monograph. It is written in an easy manner so that young and old will be able to understand it. And I pray that I may win souls for Jesus through this book. Lay you life at his feet and see what happens!

With God everything shall be possible

    God’s promises can never fail.

Earlier in this section, the birth of Jesus is being announced. An angel appeared to Mary and said she will be giving birth to the child, Jesus. Initially she did not believe it because she had not had intercourse with a man. The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and power of the Highest shall overshadow you and bring the baby to life in you. Isn’t that wonderful?

The most beautiful words we find in verse 35: The holy child to be born will be called Son of God Mary must have been a most extraordinary woman for God to have chosen her to give birth to his Son!

Elizabeth, a woman who was known to be infertile, gave birth to a boy. Is this, together with the story about Mary, not sufficient proof that nothing is impossible with God? When reading your Bible you will find several sections that confirm the above portion of Scripture.

During a few half-marathons in which we have participated, I felt I just could not go any further. Then I sent up a hurried prayer and the next thing I knew was that I completed the race within the prescribed time. Why? Because with God nothing is impossible.

The Lord wants you to ask Him when you need something. Be sincere and He will give it to you.

Lord, thank You that I may know that nothing is impossible for you, although it may seem to us to be impossible. Please help me not be so lacking in faith. Amen.

    Equality

Rich and poor have this in common: the Lord made them both.

Why do some wealthy people always have to think that they are better than others? Have you ever felt very unwelcome in the company of another person? Felt as if the other person/persons are looking down on you? Wealthy people have the perception that one has to treat them like kings and act as if you are a slave to them. For example, if they buy a painting from you, they expect you to deliver it to their home, carry it into the house and hang it. Or they snap at you, with a snooty attitude, all of which is not good for one’s self-image.

Fortunately Jesus comes with these beautiful words . . .Before the Lord, rich and poor are equal . . . In the sight of God we are all equal and are treated everyone alike. Do not act pretentiously towards others or even look down on them. One day we will appear before the same Judge and will receive the reward or punishment from God that we deserve. Perhaps your one day or mine is tomorrow?

God does not exclude anyone. He loves us all. Whether you are rich or poor, with God we are one! You should always remember that it is a privilege to be wealthy, because everything you have and who you are, all comes from the Heavenly Father. Therefore, open your hand to those who do not have.

Go down on your knees and thank
