A time is soon upon us when all we have seen will let up, and what we believed will have to redeem us. When? Only the Father knows. The signs? Need not be a daunting topic. Are we ready? We ought to prepare.

Let us yet again remember the Kingdom of God and defend it unswervingly. Through Christ, we have been taught how to relate with God and with man; through Christ, we can declare:

WE CHOOSE TO GO BACK TO GOD’S PRESENCE.

CHAPTER 1: THE RISE OF AN EMPIRE: AN INTRODUCTION

When I was in college, introductory courses thoroughly excited me and I felt comfortable with their relative ease. I could not resist the intrigue of a minuscule discussion on empires, much like an introductory course…

Once long ago, Scandinavian Vikings ruled the Russians. Then Asians ruled the Russians. Battles were fought and empires rose and fell; the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Turks, the Roman; the British. The history of statehood was written on a tabloid of bloodshed until treaties were formed, alliances forged and trade became the way to co-exist. The world we live in today is by and large a neo-liberal world, which gives it that the minute countries stop trading, the global economy slumps. The forces of globalization have prevailed strong against nations themselves with information, trade and culture knowing no boundaries. Even closed economies and isolated states like North Korea, Cuba- as well as geographically distant states excluded from global trade circles have had some form of contact with the products of globalization. Empire as an earthly pretext thus sounds farcical.

Yet at such a time is the Empire of the Almighty ripe for enlargement, we know it formally as the Kingdom of Heaven, or the Kingdom of God - the Kingdom where Christ is the heir. Like he, it will swallow up death in victory. His empire will last forever and this is granted. In such a time as this, the body of Christ has an opportunity to globalize; reach every circle and vehemently create new ways of livelihood penetrating every society and every age. The time is so ripe for the body of Christ to work round the clock to publish with a voice of thanksgiving, to sing in the congregations and among the unbelieving. Now is such a time to continuously produce new information technology that will attract souls to the living and loving God, through His son, Jesus Christ. We will endeavour to do this and be victorious at it. We could start by understanding exactly who we are in Christ- Royalty, then figure out who we are to each other-Kingdom, then master skills, wisdom, courage, boldness and His righteousness, to be able to shout it out loud:

Christ is King and one day every knee will bow and every tongue confess it!

For a long time terms such as Kingdom principles, and the Kingdom of God remained common place in my circles and yet ambiguous. What did it mean to be kingdom minded? What did Jesus mean at all when he said, the Kingdom of God is upon you. What did it mean in the Lord’s Prayer to say, thy Kingdom come? Then one day a song came back to the back of my head quite randomly, Righteousness, Peace, Joy in the Holy Ghost… righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost that’s the kingdom of God! It is a scripture; Romans 14:17. We used to harmonize this song in high school and we added a few pum-pa-riri rarams in there! I then realized, well that’s it! All that Kingdom business was about the righteousness of God himself and God in us, it was about having peace and having a peculiar joy because of the Holy Spirit in us. Joy in the Holy Ghost- that was what probably kept those poor persecuted Christians going strong. The Kingdom of God was upon me! Today still we need to make peace with the Holy Ghost and have joy in him as He is Christ’s immediate presence with us. Former Kingdoms were about colonizing, imposing culture and robbing dignity at all costs. They came, they reigned and they failed to last. The Kingdom of God is freely given, and it is a choice. All who are willing and gladly choose it, find the greatest treasures in it. However, how can anyone believe a message he has not received? The Christian therefore has been mandated as the steward of God’s kingdom, to speak of this Kingdom, just as John the Baptist spoke of the Christ to come.

Christians cannot force salvation for it is given by God alone; but they have a duty to play: to spread his word and spread his likeness: for indeed empires enlarge.

The Kingdom of God is upon us, even this generation, where hearts are hardened and a master called mammon demands so much of our time; a generation spiritually suppressed by pop-culture and the rhetoric of political correctness and inclusion- a generation that is nevertheless ours; and loved by our Maker. Let us build.

The era we are now in is hugely financially circuited and the global economic system is volatile. It is getting more difficult for everyone to achieve the so called dream life; go to school, get a good job, get married, buy a car, buy a house, take your kids on vacations and ensure they also go to college. Attending college is either elusive or entails accruing enormous debt to pay for tuition and textbooks. Jobs are more scarce or concentrated in what we could call elitist professions. Technology is rapidly expanding, if you fail to or do not want to catch-on, you are ‘left behind.’ Almost everything has become privatized and in every corner someone has started something. Actually if you haven’t thought out a business idea by now you’re very behind! Churches have not been excluded- buildings that facilitate fellowship need to be paid for, ministers are also living in a world where buying a house and paying bills and living expenses are sky rocketing so they have to also become somewhat competitive just to survive. The line has waxed so thin between fighting for survival as a ministry and being regarded as ‘prosperity pimps.’ It’s truly sad. But it’s a wearisome reality. People are suffering and are weary of the financial strains and the demands of this world. The body of Christ needs to fervently heal this weariness in people, bring joy where life is just hard, bring comfort where uncertainty looms and offer a resting place where people can realize that Christ has overcome this world too. Will he not also sustain us supernaturally while we yet have to live in it, then one day, get us out of here?

As Christians, we ought to realize that sometimes people just want help with everyday living. Help someone know how to manage the little money they have, help someone find out about places that can help, or help someone feel good about where they are in life. We have heard a lot about increase, prosperity and favour. Needful now, is power. We need to offer the power of God; the peace of God in Christ and the guidance and joy of the Holy Spirit.

When you become a Christian, it encompasses your whole life. Therefore everything you do, think, say and long for should have a Godly motive and has to be realized as a precious gift from God. Indeed life is God’s gift to us, life with meaning and hope for eternity, is Christ’s sacrifice for us. We exercise to appreciate life and live it happily under the light of God, not happily according to our fleshly desires. I like how Reverend Steve Elzinga describes our connections to God:

Connection 1- Personal life

The most reliable and consistent method of hearing from God is to read the Bible, His word to us. Your personal connection with God, having a thriving, healthy relationship with Him, is the first step to impacting all the connections with the people in your life.

Connection 2- Marriage

The heart of a marriage connection is a devotional life that fully involves both spouses. When God is a central player in your marriage, your marriage will benefit greatly from God’s presence and guidance.

Connection 3- Family

Seeking God together with family helps families to grow closer to each other and to God, to build a firm foundation. When your family takes time to listen to God and talk to God together through family devotions your family grows spiritually.

Connection 4- Fellowship

A vital Christian needs the support of a fellowship connection- your Bible study group, youth group, teams and clubs where together you connect with God. We need that opportunity to be accountable with like-minded Christian friends.

Connection 5- Church

A talking and listening dialogue with God is at the heart of corporate worship and we connect to God in a broad way that involves a wider body of His believers.

Connection 6- Kingdom

Kingdom connectedness is admitting that God rules more than your small slice of the world; it means being involved outside of your local church. It might be as simple as two friends sitting down with a cup of coffee, sharing what is going on in their lives at home, at work and at play. It might
