The Legends of Theria: The Throne of Ages
By Rob Bennett

About this ebook
In the Land of Theria, Adam is thrown into a world where he encounters strange creatures in his attempt to discover who and where he is. In his adventure, he must discover the truth about the Creator, El, in order to discover himself.
Theria is literally the land of the gods, where the gods war against El, the Creator.
In The Throne of Ages, Adam will just begin his journey to understand his identity. Written as a metaphor for world religions, this is the first adventure of Adam as he wages war with Khaliman, who seeks to claim the Throne of Ages.

FOREWORD
W hile finishing my master’s degree from Liberty University, I found my way into a Christian Bookstore. I have always been fascinated with the study of world religions, and that day I was specifically browsing Christian literature on the study of Islam. I stared at these books, many of them very large and intimidating. I wondered, how many people actually read these books? Not very many, I thought. I was curious how many people need to read books on this topic? It is essential for most, if not all, people to gain an understanding of other world views.
As a writer, I wondered, how do we get people to read these books, or at the very least know the basic information they contain? How did C.S. Lewis do it with Christianity? The answer to that question birthed the idea of this book series. By transforming challenging theological premises into story, like Lewis did in his Narnia series, my goal was to write a fantasy fiction series that teaches the average Christian about other world faiths. I hope, dear reader, that you enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Welcome to Theria, the Land of the gods.

CHAPTER 1
THE AWAKENING
I t was dark. The cry of seagulls in the distance aroused Adam from his sleep. Slowly waking facedown, Adam could feel the gritty white sand between his hands, and waves slowly lapped against his legs. Several hours passed and the sun was now high in the sky. Not far in the distance, large waves broke against massive rocks near a cliff. The sea churned and spewed white foam at every break. Weakly opening his eyes and blinking through the dried salt on his face, he could see a figure approaching from the distance. He was blurry at first, but slowly became clearer. He was also yelling something in Adam’s direction. All strength was drained from Adam’s body, his mind racing at how he arrived at this place. His body wracked with pain, a pathetic Help,
arose from Adam’s mouth as the ominous figure approached.
Pulling him from the sea, the man shook Adam forcefully, summoning the limp body back to life. Breathe!
the man yelled, taking him in his arms and carrying him to his horse. Carefully looking around for anybody else that may have attacked Adam or other survivors, the man placed Adam upon the horse and led it by the reins. The sun, high in the sky, burned bright, making any who walked along the beach susceptible to raiders, thugs, or thieves.
They approached an ancient bath near the cliff’s edge that was hewn from the rock by hand. Beautifully carved figures protruded from the rock, forever enshrined in what appeared to be a mural telling of an ancient battle. It was strange, though. There were horrifying creatures engaged in what looked like an epic battle, creatures that Adam had never seen before. There was a large marble ramp that led from the base of the cliff up into the plains above the beach. At one time, great ships were built on the plain and loaded into the sea by this ramp, but the factories had long since been destroyed, and all that remained were ruins and bare foundations of buildings. As they reached the summit, Adam slowly lost consciousness.
A few days had passed before Adam awoke. What strange place am I in?
he wondered aloud. A fantastic blend of fresh linen, herbs and baking bread was in the air. Looking around, he noticed he was in a dimly lit room with a small window. The cot which he was on was no more than a foot off the ground. His strength had been mostly restored, and he gingerly stood to his feet. As he stood, a man entered the room, suspiciously.
I am glad to see you are up and feeling better, my friend. My name is Farley, and this is my humble home. Come tell me your name. Who are you? Did you come for the seer? What were you doing down at the beach, lying there as if dead? You know, you are quite lucky that I found you when I did. Any longer and you would surely be dead. Tell me, were you ship-wrecked? I saw no vessel, no other travelers in the area. Peculiar. Very peculiar indeed. I rarely travel that far to the west, but the sea always has a way of revitalizing one’s senses. And I have been having a terrible time of late. Absolutely terrible…
A look of fear appeared upon Farley’s face, but disappeared just as quickly. Anyway, come, tell me of yourself.
I…I do not know. I cannot remember anything,
reaching his hand to his head as if to stop the world from spinning. I was walking, I think…and… and the next thing I remember is the taste of salt, and I was wet. Then I was here.
Do you at least have a name?
interrupted Farley.
Adam.
"Adam. Hmm, yes that is fitting. I drew a man out of the sea, Farley chuckled to himself.
Here, I believe that these clothes will suit you. Please dress and come eat. I made breakfast!" Farley darted out of the room surprisingly quickly for a man of his age, whistling quite loudly and excitedly.
Adam caught the bundle, and a strange looked crossed his face at the sight of the unfamiliar clothing. After a few minutes, he managed to dress himself, as best as he could guess, and walked down a narrow hallway, nearly scraping his head as he entered a larger room. In it was a rug in the middle of the floor, with pillows for reclining. Unaccustomed to dining in such a manner, Adam lay down across from Farley as they dined on a pathetic helping of flat bread and what seemed to be a strange bowl of fish soup with an unfamiliar spice in it. Engaged in idle small talk, Adam looked about the home, seeming somewhat uncomfortable with his surroundings. Farley questioned him again.
How is the food? Good, yes? I caught the fish myself the day I found you. Eat. It will restore your strength.
Before Adam could answer, Farley asked him again, So you know nothing of where you are? You’re not a spy are you?
Farley glared at Adam.
No. I’m sorry. I told you have no recollection. I have no idea even where I am.
Hmm. Well, let me tell you then, my friend. You are in the City of Gulmaria, as the old timers still call it, but it is now the City of Kazran. We are not a large city, but we are an important city nonetheless. We were once upon a time called Gulmaria and before that we were once the mightiest of cities in all of Theria. But that was long, long ago. Does none of this seem right to you? Come now, you must remember which region you hail from. You are definitely not Hetti, perhaps either Hepherian or Wapherian? No, your face is too round. You are not of our kind either. Your appearance is…strange. No matter! It is not often I have guests, so you’ll excuse the mess!
Farley jumped from his seat and walked to the kitchen and threw his dishes in the sink carelessly and looked about for his pipe.
"I told you, I know not of what you speak. I remember nothing. What is Theria?"
Ah, yes! Theria is the land of the gods; a land of great mystery and adventure, surrounded by the Sea so far as we can tell. There is the Eastern Sea, far beyond the Hetti people and the mystic places, the Northern Sea which lays further still beyond to the north, frozen in ice, and the Western Sea where I drew you from. There is also the Southern Sea; it is not too terribly far to the south, just a few days’ ride, but nobody dares go there, for that is the world of the jinn which is guarded by the Dark Elves. It is said that those who stray too far into the sea fall right off the face of the world and into the Underworld where the jinn and…. gods dwell.
Farley trailed off as he excitedly found his pipe which was hiding in his pocket. Now how did that get there…?
Jinn and gods?
"Ah, yes, they live in the southern sea, banished there after the Great War. Only one
