    INTRODUCTION

    We experienced how the global financial crisis affected those around us; friends, colleagues, subordinates, neighbors, superiors and retirees. No industry was spared especially those that were able or unable to cope with sudden job losses. As a live participant in the banking industry in Nigeria and a world observer of the financial crisis, I can accurately tell you that it has been a bitter pill to swallow, especially when you are not ready for it.

    That is what inspired this book; to tell my colleagues and all those in paid employment that a day will surely come; it will be either voluntarily by retirement, resignation or forcefully by retrenchment or outright sack. What are you doing in preparation for that fateful day? It is never too early or too late, the time is now.

    I was at a seminar sometime back where a former bank MD who is now into real estate was giving the story of how unprepared he was for life after banking and how he had struggled to stay overboard for a long time. He also talked about a former bank MD in one of the banks in Nigeria who retired in the early nineties and took his severance package in joy to go live the rest of his life in blissful glamour, after all, such a huge payoff will not finish for like another two life times, but to his amazement,
