Views from the Saddle - Ray A. Twist
A MAGIC MEADOW
While standing on top of a mountain,
I saw a white cloud floating by.
I hopped on it and rode to a rainbow,
Somewhere in a pure blue sky.
I jumped off onto a rainbow,
That was red, yellow, and green.
I slid down the colors to a magic meadow,
The most beautiful place I have ever seen.
There were ferns, flowers, and polka dot swans,
On little pools of ocean blue.
There were little elves dressed in white and gold,
Offering to do nice things for you.
They danced, and they sang, and they did magic tricks,
Then they showed some kids how to fly.
There were people there from many places,
That came floating in from the sky.
We were riding on magic carpets,
Having lots of fun.
It was truly a magic meadow,
Under a smiling sun.
Four pink elephants were singing songs,
As they came floating by.
A yellow chimp struck a big drum,
And gum drops fell from the sky.
Then it came time to say goodbye.
I really hated to go.
They waved their wands over my head,
And I was back on the mountain, in the snow.
A GOOD RUN
An early run with my dog Rover,
Through the fields and grass and clover.
With the smell of flowers in the air,
We are free without a care.
I rest awhile upon a log.
I love this time with my dog.
I take time from each busy day,
Spending it with Rover to run and play.
He won’t let me miss, rain or shine.
He starts to get noisy, at the exact time.
I enjoy my time out in the breeze,
While Rover reclaims the fireplugs and trees.
YOUR CENTER
Hold on to the things you were given,
Since the time that you were born.
Your heritage is not like toys and clothes,
It will never be old and worn.
It will serve you when you are lonely,
It will be with you in a crowd.
It will be with you on the brightest days,
Or when the sun is behind a cloud.
It will cause other folks to believe in you.
That’s what makes you steadfast and strong.
Hold on to the things you were given.
Make it your silent song.
Farm jokes
When I was a boy,
For my own joy,
I took a lantern light,
To the chicken house one night.
I raised it to the window,
And let it glow.
The rooster was fooled
And started to crow.
He thought it was the sun,
And he woke up the flock.
He was dependable,
And he was our farm clock.
Except in winter and late Fall,
On cloudy days, he didn’t crow at all.
Early the next morning, as fI slep in my place,
My dad said, You’re late for school. Look at the sun.
When the joke was on me, it wasn’t much fun !
BEFORE WE PRAYED
A child has been told that if she prays, God will surely respond.
She said that she has prayed for many things,
But no answer has come from beyond.
Someone should explain to her,
Before her faith slips away.
All the gifts God has given her,
Before she learned to pray.
He gave her the power to use her mind,
To run, to play, and to speak.
He gave her the ability to grow strong and wise,
Where others may choose to be weak.
He placed her in a country of freedom,
Where she can practice her own lifestyle.
If she’s not happy with her blessings right now,
God will give her the patience to wait awhile.
She should be taught that we are all given talents,
But they are not all the same.
How we use our talents, is what really counts,
And life is like a game.
We should pray for wisdom and guidance,
In using the talents he gave.
And if we listen to that inner voice He gave us,
We will know just how to behave.
The answer to our prayers are already here.
We must seek and we will find.
We should thank Him for giving us the power,
