      Dear reader,

      May the blessings of our Lord, Jesus Christ be with you. I’m very pleased that you are in possession of my first book of hymn texts. I pray that this book will help you to become more fruitful and creative in your ministerial work.

      I’ve paired up many of my hymn texts with existing hymn tunes. If you would like to listen to four part renditions of these suggested hymn tunes you can go to the following web address:

      You may choose to use my hymn suggestions or you may choose to pair the texts with other hymn tunes. It is entirely up to you.       Because I am also a composer, I have written melodies for many of my hymn texts. In these cases, you will not find a suggested hymn tune under the title. My melodies will appear on the page opposite the hymn text.

      Foreword

      The hymns of the Christian church have been, throughout the ages, a bridge that connects the faithful with their God. Hymn texts are reflections of the Word of God, Him who bridges heaven and earth. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, hymns have proclaimed the gospel in a very special way. They have embedded themselves into the hearts and souls of those who write them, those who sing them and those who hear them. Hymns have drawn people to Christ for the very first time. They have softened the hard hearts of the unrepentant and have called repentant souls back to the fold. They have connected the church with the saints and angels. Indeed, they are a foretaste of the divine adoration which mortals shall participate in when they enter into the realms of heaven.

      "From Grace To Verse, From Verse To Song" is a collection of original hymns and hymn texts that have been penned by the gifted composer and hymnist Richard C. Jeffrey. I have known Richard for over twenty years. I am very proud to call him a friend and a colleague. He has, over the years, shared his music, his hymn texts and his poetry with me as they became available. They have become some of my favorite literary and musical works. I have used them successfully with the choirs that I direct. I am certain that Richard’s book, "From Grace To Verse, From Verse To Song" will become one of your favorite collections of Christian hymns and hymn texts.
