    Serena Lynn Estes Johnson

    Serena Johnson was born and raised in Southern California. She currently resides near Austin, Texas with her two precious boys, who are the best gifts God has given her. Though she has experienced many tragic losses in her life, she is a woman with tremendous faith, of which she shares with others who have also lost loved ones. Serena recently lost her husband, Anthony Biff Johnson, and is now a single mother working in the high tech industry as an Account Executive. Serena would like the opportunity to encourage and help those who have had similar losses in their lives by doing speaking engagements throughout the country. Serena graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management in 1994. She majored in Marketing and Social Behavior.

      My life has consisted of many challenges including the loss of both of my parents by the age of eighteen, and watching both of my parents endure cancer and suffer from the effects of alcohol abuse. I have always joked, I need to write a book because I think I am God’s Test Pilot!

      I have suffered my own health issues. I recently lost the love of my life, Biff Johnson, in the year 2011. This recent loss encouraged me to write this book to help inspire those who have suffered loss. Life does go on, and if you keep the faith, it DOES get better.

      Dedication

      I would like to dedicate this book to all my friends who have supported me throughout my life.

      I especially want to thank Crystal, my best friend, who has taken me in as her sister. Crystal has been such an inspiration to me, and her family has taken me in to be one of their surrogate family members. I would also like to recognize Crystal’s mother and father, Ken and Jean, who have always included me in family events and loved me like their own daughter.

      Sunah Feng, my longest-term friend, will always be there in spirit, no matter how far apart we live. We will sit on our rocking chairs someday and cherish all the years and great times we have had together.

      I would also like to dedicate this book to my stepson, Drew Johnson, hoping that this book can be an inspiration to him in this time of grieving the loss of his father. I understand his pain and hope that he can find peace in his life in knowing that his father’s spirit is still with him.

      I would also like to recognize my father-in-law, Dempsey Johnson, and his wife Luna, who have also accepted me as their own family. Biff’s sisters, Tia, Carla, and Lisa, who have accepted me as a sister of their own.

      My cousin, Tami Olson, has always been there for me in all the tough times and available by phone to listen to my challenges in life. My cousin, Ben, has always been there to help around the house and kept in touch with me, no matter how far we lived from each other.

      My mother’s best friend, Georgia Holt, who is my godmother. Mom and Georgia shared so many special times, and she has always been there to listen to all my challenges and encounters in life with a supportive, helping hand and an ear to listen to all my growing up.

      To Lisa, Sam, and Tara who had the opportunity to share in the experience of my wedding to my soul mate, Biff Johnson, and became some of my best friends in Texas.

      To my pastor, Shayne O’Brien, and his wife, Julie, who stepped up and took the opportunity to support me in the loss of my husband and caring for my children when I needed the time to grieve.

      God’s Test Pilot is intended to be an inspiration to those who have lost loved ones, endured the tragedy of losing a parent or parents suddenly, had parents that were ill or addicted to alcohol, had cancer and terminal illnesses, and/or lost a spouse suddenly. Serena has always joked, I’m just God’s Test Pilot!

      The author wants to encourage people to look at life from a positive perspective and teach people to remain positive after each experience of loss. This is only a temporary life, and we can choose to look at tragedy and
