About this ebook

In the past decade, Texas Baptists have been involved in the development of cowboy churches. Each Sunday in Texas, thirty-five to forty thousand people attend a Texas Baptist/AFCC cowboy church. One of the great needs is to have Bible study materials that are culturally relevant for the Western Heritage Churches.

Authors Greg Long and Charles Higgs have created a series of lessons that will go through the entire Bible.

The reader can look forward to six volumes: volume one takes you on a journey from Genesis through Esther; volume two will go from Matthew through Acts; volume three will cover the Wisdom Books; volume four will cover the Letters of Paul, Peter, James and the Book of Hebrews; volume five will cover the Major & Minor Prophets; volume six will cover the Book of Revelation.

    Genesis

    Lesson One: Genesis

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 KJV

    Genesis pictures Christ the Creator!

Genesis means in the beginning. This book was authored by Moses and was probably written 1445-1405 B.C.

    Creation: Chapters 1-2

God created everything out of nothing. He made all of this for you and me. He created the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve, and placed them in the Garden of Eden.

The Fall and the Results of the Fall: Chapters (3-5)

A Little Humor: Adam was walking with his sons Cain and Abel. They passed by the ruins of the Garden of Eden. One of the boys asked, What’s that? Adam replied, Boys, that’s where your mother ate us out of house and home.

The fall of man was not a funny thing because we are still dealing with the aftermath. Satan interrupted God’s great plan for humanity by tempting and convincing Adam and Eve to disobey God.

We look at the first prophecy and see how God will redeem humanity. I’m declaring war between you and the Woman, between your offspring and hers. He’ll wound your head, you’ll wound his heel. Genesis 3:15—The Message

The aftermath of the fall of men is that the descendants follow the path of violence, wickedness, and immorality.

Here Comes the Flood and a New Start (6-11)

Humanity became so sinful that God had to destroy humanity though a worldwide flood. Noah, a righteous man, and his family were saved by preparing an ark. Noah’s family would replenish the earth.

Father Abraham had Many Sons (12-25)

God called a man named Abram whom he renamed Abraham. He left his homeland and traveled to a new land. He became the Father of the Jews. He was 100 and his wife Sarah was in her 90’s when their first son, Isaac, was born. Abraham’s greatest descendant would be Jesus Christ. (Matthew 1)

Isaac and his Two Sons (24-28)

Isaac, whose name means laughter, had two sons, Jacob and Esau. Isaac received his name when Abraham, who was one hundred, fell on the floor laughing when He was told by God that his wife Sarah, who was in her nineties, would conceive a son. Jacob, whose name means manipulator, manipulated his father’s blessing from his father Isaac.

    Jacob Becomes Israel (28-36)

Jacob left home and while sleeping on the ground had a dream. In the dream he saw himself wrestling with God. God gave Jacob the name of Israel which means struggling with God. Jacob had twelve sons which gave birth to the twelve tribes of Israel.

Joseph the Dreamer & God Knows the Rest of the Story (37-50) The man who went from a Pit to the Palace.

Joseph’s story would have been a good Now You Know the Rest of the Story, that the late Paul Harvey could have used. Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son. His brothers became jealous and sold Joseph into slavery. After 17 years of trials Joseph became Prime Minister of Egypt. He
