About this ebook

Just the sound of the words, fair, just and righteous, can prove to be exhilarating as much as they can prove to be confusing. The words sound good, however; in this world, few really believe in them for good reason. For all practical purposes they do not exist. The words exist, however, the true meaning of the words rarely exist. Everyone knows that life is not fair. If it were fair there would not be any hungry, much less starving people in the world.
This world is not a just world. Take our own justice system for example. Its the best we can come up with, so I suppose it is better than nothing. Try convincing that to the families who have loved ones who are innocent yet are incarcerated and even executed, or the victims of the guilty criminals who are set free. These are not infrequent injustices.
Righteousness is fair and just combined. It has to do with being morally upright and proper. Know anyone like that? Self-righteous and unrighteous people are far more plentiful in this world.
But what if you could imagine a world where fairness, and justice and righteousness were absolute realities? A world where God, not man or religion, but only God was the One who defined the meaning and measure of fairness, justice and righteousness? Wow! Who wouldnt love that? That is music to our ears. Or rather it should be music to our ears.
Its hard to imagine a place like that because we have never known a place like that. Yet, there is a place like that that does exist. Some people believe that, and some people dont, and thats okay. All I ask is that you imagine, much like imagining what you would do with all your winnings of a lottery. Even if you do not win, those moments of imaging, what if, were still fun, and they were real at the time.
You do not have to believe in this world to have fun imagining it is real. However; be prepared to pay the price if you do decide this world is real. By the way, the price is free.

    Introduction

I believe that as far as mankind’s belief in God is concerned, each man and each generation will have to answer for themselves. I do not believe that God changes what He expects of us, which is to believe in Him and love others.

Each person and each generation, be they before Christ or after, be they Jew, Catholic, Baptist, Mormon, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, etc., will be judged, not according to any particular religious group, not according to any particular teaching of God, but rather by their heart. I believed that before I ever decided to sit down and seriously read a word from the Bible for myself. I especially believe that now, since I have taken the time to read and study this Book, The Bible.

Prior to reading the Bible for myself, I felt I needed no Bible scholar to tell me it is not possible for anyone or any one group of men to own God—or to own Jesus Christ—or to own Christianity. It seemed to me in my own naïve mind that everyone knew something as elementary as that. Mind you, at the time I knew nothing of the Crusades, where Christians and Muslims killed each other. I knew very little about the details of the Reformation, where Catholics and Protestants killed each other. I knew close to nothing at all about this life long war that has been going on in the Middle East. Let alone that Catholics and Protestants are still killing each other in Ireland. Religious conflicts, great and small, are commonplace. But for what, and why? Not for God. Mankind conveniently uses, or rather misuses and abuses God’s Name as an excuse to justify and to promote religious rivalry, hatred, and war.

I was born and raised Catholic and I had no idea just exactly what a Protestant even was until the age of 39. A young girl, I went to church often with my friends who attended different churches, like Methodist and Baptist, Lutheran and Church of Christ. My friends also often came to my church with me. I had heard the word Protestant in my life and assumed it was a name of a church, such as Baptist or Methodist or Catholic. I had no idea at the time just how lucky my friends and I were to be raised by such loving parents who never used their own belief in God to harm, sway or affect their children in any way. The freedom our parent’s gave us to worship God in any House and to love everyone, were seeds well sewn, allowing a solid foundation to grow a healthy belief in God. Our parents never attempted in any way to plant a seed of religious division, rivalry, exclusion or hatred within us. So when I was introduced at the age of 39, to what I call, this ugly thing; religious division, rivalry, exclusion and hatred, I was literally shocked and even confused at first. Then I became intrigued. I wanted to learn and try to understand as much as I possibly could as to why this thing exists at all. I set out to gain as much knowledge as possible about the similarities, the differences, and the details regarding as many of these religions as I could.

I have met some of the most fantastic Bible study partners. Three of them just so happened to be Pentecostal, some were Baptists and Roman Catholics, several Evangelicals, and we even had a Greek Orthodox Catholic study with us for a while. I also had the opportunity to study the Bible with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, as well as the Mormons. While we all may have been born and raised in different religious settings, with some differing teachings and beliefs, we came together to read and study the Bible with a somewhat united purpose. For the most part it worked out fairly well. After all it has proven to be mankind who is responsible for inventing this religious rivalry between our different divisions, and we can choose to not be a part of it. Ironically I have discovered that this ugly thing, this rivalry between so many professed religious groups claiming exclusive ownership rights and title to True Christianity is huge.

While much of the world already seemed to know all about this perpetual God War, it was astonishing news to me.

There are many people today that are as naïve as I was to this God Game. Take my big sister for instance.

As I started to learn about this thing, I asked my sister if she had ever heard about any of this stuff that I was just now learning for myself. Things such as, many other professed Christian divisions teach their members that Catholics are not real Christians. Or if she had ever heard, as I had it explained to me that the Catholic belief in Purgatory is viewed as a second chance cop out theory.

My sister, who is four years older than me, basically told me that I did not know what I was talking about. She is a nurse and assured me that Purgatory is spoken about often and freely with and amongst the other nurses that she works with.

Cute and naïve as I had also been, she said to me, Everyone believes in Purgatory, don’t be ridiculous!

She did however check it out when she went to work the next day. All the nurses she worked with were Catholic.

Purgatory is not the issue. Catholic vs. Protestant is not the issue. At least it is not for me and my studies, nor this book.

I am no more against a Protestant than the man on the moon! I never have been, it is not my intention now and it never will be.

My point is = I was clueless! At the age of 39 I was clueless. Not mad, not angry or feeling like a fight. I wanted to understand. I called some of my friends, who I do consider to be my friends, over and above any differing religious beliefs we just so happened to be born into, raised in or a member of.

I have to admit I took many of them by surprise, caught them off guard, I guess you could say. All I did was ask a few simple questions. I saw it as no big deal myself. I simply asked them if these things were true and what other things if any are said and taught within their religious group about Catholics.

My friends were uncomfortable and almost apologetic as they proceeded to inform me that much of what I had learned was indeed correct. Even my sweet husband, born and raised Protestant (Methodist) cringed when I asked him the same things I had asked my friends.

I assured my friends and my husband that it was ok that they had told me these things. Why wouldn’t it be? I only asked these questions in the first place to gain truthful and accurate knowledge.

For the most part they agreed that the various Protestant churches they were brought up in did include in their teachings that Catholics were not true Christians. Some Protestant churches teach their followers that the Catholic Church is the head of satan’s kingdom here on earth.

The Protestants that I am closest to are not like that at all. Thank God! I was never told or taught anything negative or hateful about those from others religious groups. Therefore, I do not feel anything negative or hateful towards others religious beliefs.

My goal is, and always has been simply to figure out where this ugly thing comes from, and more so why it continues to exist at all today, well over 2000 years since Jesus walked this earth. I am unable to see the benefits from either side convincing themselves that there is any justification for this rivalry. I see it as what the Bible refers to as the unproductive land. Be it the desert or the wilderness, both words are used to describe the unproductive land in the Bible. A place where a seed is unlikely to take root and actually grow. The Bible often uses fruit as the main example. We are all likened to seeds that have been planted. We are encouraged to take root and grow lots of good fruit. That fruit is clearly Love. Jesus is called the first-fruit. We are all symbolically likened to seeds sewn in various situations. It is better to be sewn in a productive land than an unproductive land. Not literally, rather symbolically.
