About this ebook

The word worship actually comes from worthship. It is really beyond mankinds ability to ever understand the worth of God; so therefore, it is beyond his ability to express it. However, as we continue to grow in knowledge of Him, we increase in our ability to worship Him.

The God of the Bible has always shown that he wanted to be close to His people. He is not a God afar off. When Israel was liberated from Egypt and organized into a nation, God had His tent (tabernacle) set up right in the midst. He led them daily and communicated with them freely.

We can get there from here! We can become like Jesus in devotion to God, in submission of self, in walking confidently in this present world. The route is described for us in the scriptures and the demonstration is clear and graphic.

    About The Author

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated in loving memory of Bishop Francis L. Smith, who made a great contribution to my life and this project. He was a great husband, father, pastor, bishop, author, builder, community leader and above all a servant of God. He was gentle, yet firm, compassionate and sensitive to the needs of others, even to little children to whom he always greeted. His wife, Natalie Hubbard Smith, referred to him as a man among men. He openly shared his wisdom and knowledge with me over the years, but particularly during the time we served as co-pastors from 1987 until 1992. He was born in Ironspot, Ohio in 1915 and gave his life to Christ in 1933 in Columbus, Ohio. He left his medical studies after receiving the call to minister the Word of God. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Burton, College. He served as pastor of First Apostolic Faith Church in Akron, Ohio for over forty years. He also served as Presiding Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. for two terms. He retired from the pastorate in 1992. He passed away in 1995. I am so grateful for having the opportunity to sit at his feet and allow him to pour into my life. He is gone, but never forgotten.

    AKNOWLEDGEMENTS

To my sons, Pastor Samuel II (Meranda) and Minster Andrae Hampton whom I can always call.

To my loving granddaughters, Samara Jade, Palmer and Pilar, who keeps me young and active.

To Dr. Valerie Cooper for her wealth of knowledge and support.

    INTRODUCTION

Have you ever had a burning question in mind, but hesitated to ask anyone for the fear of what others might think?

Well, I pray that the writing of this book will answer many of your questions and give you some clear directions for your life.

These individual articles cover a broad range of topics that are not too long, but long enough to give you inspiration and serious answers for victorious living.

We must have wisdom to use the knowledge we have achieved over the years. In Proverbs 3:13, the Bible tells us, Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. The result of having wisdom is a quality of life full of tranquility and confidence. May I share with you these Gems and Wisdom that I have gathered from my Mentor, Bishop Francis L. Smith. May they impart to you the victory of living for Christ!

    The Meaning Of True Worship

John 4:23 says, But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

Worship of God is a privilege and a right and should be treated with great care to see that it pleases Him whom we worship. I want to address these words to all saints but especially to those who are new in the Lord and to the young people of the church.

It appears that worship is being considered as anything anyone wants to offer to God whether it is what God wants or not. Because we label it worship does not make it worship. The word means stating the worth of a thing. In worshipping God we are stating the worth of God in worship.

God is supreme, awesome, and majestic. His worship should reflect His awesomeness, His majesty, and be supreme. We cannot just throw anything at Him and ask Him to accept it as worship. Acts 17:30 says, And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: This tells us that there was a time when God had not revealed Himself to mankind and He winked at the ignorance of the ways that men worshipped Him. But it also implied that that time was over.

Worship is a privilege granted to us. Any earthly royalty would not permit a subject to just barge into his presence any time with anything and put it before him. Our God has so granted us the privilege of entering His courts momentarily with praise, thanks or requests. We should therefore be discreet as to what we take before Him. Is it worthy of His Presence?

I want to especially deal with what is offered the Lord in terms of music of worship. Music was designed by God Himself as a means of expression for the inner feelings of mankind. It is composed of lyrics or words in a medium of melodic sound. It is the sound that expresses the inner feeling. It is possible to put any kind of words together and immerse them in sound that does not agree with the words. The melody, rhythm, and tempo can be expressing something
