About this ebook
After hitting her head, Lucy Sparks awakens in the hospital to a shocking revelation: the man she’s known and loved for years—the man she recently married—is not actually her husband. In fact, they haven’t even spoken since their breakup four years earlier. The happily-ever-after she remembers in vivid detail—right down to the dress she wore to their wedding—is only one example of what her doctors call a false memory: recollections Lucy’s mind made up to fill in the blanks from the coma.
Her psychologist explains the condition as honest lying, because while Lucy’s memories are false, they still feel incredibly real. Now she has no idea which memories she can trust—a devastating experience not only for Lucy, but also for her family, friends and especially her devoted boyfriend, Matt, whom Lucy remembers merely as a work colleague.
When the life Lucy believes she had slams against the reality she’s been living for the past four years, she must make a difficult choice about which life she wants to lead, and who she really is.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Enjoyable read about a woman who, after a slip on some ice, wakes up from a coma remembering a completely different life. Lucy has to then figure out the mysteries of the past in order to better understand her present.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A special thank you to Edelweiss and Park Row Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.Karma Brown is one of my new favourite authors. I had the pleasure of attending an author event featuring Karma last May and she is delightful! BookClubbish hosted a high tea and book signing at the King Eddy in Toronto. Lainey, as in gossip maven, etalk correspondent, co-host of The Social, and founder of laineygossip.com Lainey, joined Karma for a Q&A session. The women chatted about the writing process—Lainey has also has written a book Listen to the Squawking Chicken: When Mother Knows Best, What's A Daughter To Do? A Memoir (Sort Of)—what it's like being a woman in the publishing industry, and where Karma gets her inspiration from. Both ladies were incredibly well-spoken and just so interesting! If you have an opportunity to attend an event with Karma, I highly recommend you do so, you won't be disappointed.Lucy Sparks hits her head after suffering a winter weather related fall. When she wakes up in the hospital with her parents and co-worker, Matt, by her side, she wonders where her husband, Daniel, is. She believes that Daniel is her husband, but he's actually her ex-boyfriend that she hasn't spoken to in four years. She is suffering from what are fictitious memory recollections and her life as she knows it is completely different from her actual life. Essentially, it's like honest lying—Lucy's memories are false, but because she can even recall such vivid detail, the memories seem incredibly real to her. Given that Lucy's memory can't be trusted and that this may be a permanent condition, it is a devastating experience for her friends, family, and especially for Matt. You see Matt is Lucy's doting boyfriend, not just her coworker which is how Lucy remembers him. Despite Matt's best efforts, Lucy continues to have feelings for Daniel. Lucy must make a difficult choice about which life she wants to lead, who she wants to lead it with, and who she really is.For fans of Karma's books, The Life Lucy Knew is a bit of a detour in style, but one that I liked! Without giving anything away, the ending of this novel is further developed than her other stories and in this case it really worked. Also unique to this book was all of the Canadian references and I enjoyed Toronto's presence in the story. Karma is such a gifted writer. There were a few decisions that could have gone either way, and she's that good in that any of the scenarios would have worked. Congratulations, Karma. Another fantastic read and I can't wait for your next book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Karma Brown is one of those few authors that I will buy her books without knowing anything about them because I know that they will be fantastic. With The Life Lucy Knew, her 4th novel, she proves that she is definitely a fantastic author. Lucy Sparks wakes up in the hospital with her parents and Matt, her best friend from work by her side. Where she wonders is her husband Daniel? It turns out that the fall caused Lucy to forget parts of her past. She hasn't spoken to Daniel in over four years (and they never married) and Matt, her best friend from work is really her long time boyfriend. And the worst part is that the damage to her memory may be long term. Despite pictures and Matt's best efforts, Lucy continues to feel strong love for Daniel. All of as sudden she is faced with all kinds of 'what-ifs' and the need to make a decision about how she wants to live her life and who she wants to live it with.I laughed and cried with Lucy and was rooting for her throughout this entire novel even when I wasn't sure about which decision would be the best for her life. She's a character that I won't soon forget. The supporting characters are also great, especially Matt who loves Lucy and wants to help her regain her memory of their lives together. This is a FANTASTIC book! Thanks to the author for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.
