About this ebook

Glow is a passionate collection of mystical poems inspired by transformative events that signaled rebirth and self inquiry. It is divided into three themes: Heart, Insights/Realizations and Universal. This work is a journey through one womans evolution from innocence to conscious living. Her goal is to help the reader realize that, blessings can be salvaged from the deepest emotional pain. Through her poems, the author exposes how the storms of human relationships are necessary for self actualization. These learned truths have powerful cascading effects, which filter down and alter the meaning of all that we experience. Experiences that, when shared with others, can bring us all to a higher level of awareness.

Rehab Rivers

Rehab Rivers is of Somali roots and was born in Aden, Yemen. Her friends know her as Kiki. She was born into the revered Shariff family, and enjoyed the changes of her nomadic life; a lifestyle common in her region. Having resided in Yemen, UAE, India, and the United States, her family finally decided to immigrate to Toronto, Canada, in 1989. Always a seeker of knowledge and truth, she went on a profound spiritual journey, exploring many religions as a teenager. Her aspirations of pursuing medicine were put aside to join the workforce, and later raise a family. The lessons she learned as a child about welcoming change were put to the test when her sixteen-year marriage ended with a tragic separation. The entry of a certain healer into Rehabs life triggered her creativity. Rehab has spent the past fourteen years enjoying a career as a flight attendant. She currently lives in Toronto with her two angels, Ethan and Hana.

    Glow - Rehab Rivers

    Acknowledgement

In 2008, my sixteen-year marriage ended tragically. This was a very dark period; it was also the beginning of my transformation.

Shortly after my separation, an Angel of hope entered my life. He opened my eyes to the unseen world and resurrected a part of me from a state of death. He gave me the spark of life which allowed me to expand into a fire of burning creativity. To him I say: Thank you Derrick for reminding me of my divinity and for inspiring the artist within me to compose what became Glow. Teacher, teach is the first piece you inspired me to write, the rest followed naturally. You are ever-present and I am eternally grateful.

I offer my deepest thanks to my loving and supportive parents, my wonderful children and the friends who have walked beside me; you are all my co-creators and stars. Your contribution helped me wake up, grow and live again.

I would like to express my gratitude to Jason Harris for preserving my creative style while lending his time & expertise in editing this book. Finally, a special thank you to Hay House for guiding me to the team at Balboa Press who helped me share Glow.

    Heart

    Precious

    Willingly

    Your distancing YOU

    I understand.

    Patiently

    Your silent YOU

    I await.

    Deprivation

Is an old friend that visits

    How will earth

    Deny rain its season?

    A rare diamond

    Your kind, is a find

    Unique as a pearl

    I receive you enthusiastically.

    You invoked within

    The deepest parts of me

    Longings & inquiries

    That multiplies naturally

    The fall of one leaf

    Does not affect the tree

Yet the surface this leaf covers

    Is transformed

    My declaration will be

    For you only

    The world may not notice

    How you’ve been touched.

    The way I loved you

If I was to describe loving

I’d fail for lacking the vocabulary

Even if I searched through ancient texts & books

My words don’t exist in a dictionary

And if I was to try

    I’ll explain it relatively

    Because words are limiting

But let’s first exit this library

    When I learned to love

    My senses were enhanced

    Beyond measure

I saw beauty, in everything around me

I found my fountain of youth,

    Love, the ultimate treasure

    Before you asked, I
