Selah! Selah! - 'Deji Ayoade
I’ve Come to Realize
I’ve come to realize
that hastening is childish.
I’ve learned to do things
in a simple, gradual, planned, perfect way—
best, usually, is patience.
I’ve come to realize
that nothing on earth is forbidden anymore.
People’s beliefs
tend to be determinant.
When I was younger,
I saw lovemaking differently.
I’ve come to realize
that it is a way
humans fulfill their bodily desires
that spring out from lust.
I’ve come to realize
the beginning of a man’s future
starts from the day
he understands the need to be part of the world
and also strives to make the best out of it.
I’ve come to realize
that the best friend of man,
both before and after death,
will be his virtue.
I’ve come to realize
that it’s hopeless
to encourage someone you’re not in love with—
but when you find love,
grab it!
I’ve come to realize
marriage doesn’t survive on right choices,
but you can make your choice right …
Father
One more time, I looked out my lair,
with tears streaming down my face.
My eagle glides through the air,
forcing its way through the thick, dark trace,
up into the night sky.
I’d just left a chapter of my dream
to turn a new page,
where I could become a better story.
I cry for only—
if only my father had a breath left in him,
this moment could be cherished more.
If only he weren’t lying six feet under,
I’d get one last hug.
Believe
If only I could take a trip into your world,
I would probably understand more.
You have built for yourself a castle of fear,
so weak, a typhoon could tear.
Still, not so much of pain,
you can start all over again.
If every pain someone puts you through
remains alive in you,
every trial
would be mine.
I have empty shoulders to lean on—
would you let me be the one?
I have listened to so many songs,
and I have waited for so long,
but I choose to believe in this love,
and in it I want to live forevermore.
Smile
Smile—
the many hours of life are but flowers;
each single day is a blossom that withers.
Though it’s hard to understand the certainty of death,
even though his cold hands are ever present.
Life is short, but looks long.
Life is short than to sluggishly live on.
Yes, smile—
for every rising sun, begin in God’s might.
And do not remember your sorrows,
but borrow those experiences for tomorrow.
Register the lessons of the mistakes,
and then open every letter in hope, not fear.
Please, smile—
cause if
