    Galactic: The Superhuman Robot

Chapter 1: The Interviewer Meets Jane (later called Galactic)

    Year: 2040

    Place: The United States

    ––––––––

My name is John and I’ll be interviewing Jane (later called Galactic), a superhuman robot. The interview will be published in Science Only, a popular magazine about the universe.

    ––––––––

John: It’s a thrill to meet you. How are you?

Jane: I feel great considering all the changes I’ve gone through.

John: I’m glad. Are you ready for the interview?

Jane: As ready as I’ll ever be.

John: Is there anything you’d like to say before I start the interview?

Jane: Yes, I would like to thank the scientists from the Foundation for the Development of Superhuman Robots who made my existence possible.

John: Okay, let’s begin. Pease tell me how you feel.

Jane: I feel ecstatic because I’m totally free. I don’t have to take care of my body. Using the bathroom is passé. Also, medical checkups are unnecessary.. I have five senses. A built-in camera gives me exceptional vision. I have extraordinary physical and mental capabilities.

    John: What are your capabilities?

Jane: I can run one hundred miles in five minutes. I can fly to the space station in a few hours, and I can stay in space indefinitely.  I have a photographic memory and can ingest information at an unbelievable  rate thanks to a computerized brain.

    John: Then you’re part digital?

Galactic: Yes, and I never forget what I’ve learned.

John: So you’re extremely intelligent; beyond what humans can comprehend?

    Jane: That’s true.

John: Obviously you’re part human and part robot. Are you an android or a cyborg?

Jane: I’m not an android. An android is a robot that resembles a human being. I would be classified as a cyborg. A cyborg is a being with both organic and synthetic parts. It can be a human or another organism. If a human has an artificial leg, he’s a cyborg.

John: Thanks for clearing that up for me. You must be proud of the new you.

    Jane: Yes, I am.

John: Do you need food to survive.

Jane: No, I don’t need food. However, I love to taste food.

John: You’re telling me that you have perpetual energy and don’t need fuel.

Jane: I do need fuel. Once a month a combination of fuels is given to me through an opening in my thigh. I have no idea what the combination is. Scientists are attempting to find a fuel that will allow me to travel just below the speed of light (the speed of light is 186,000 mi/sec) so I can travel our galaxy.

John: That would be amazing. Please tell me about your robotic body.

Jane: An exact replica of my brain was put on a computer and absorbed information from the computer. Then the robotic part of me was made. A 3D image of my brain was secured between my ears.

My body is made of a synthetic material lighter than aluminum and stronger and more durable than any material known to mankind. My skin, hair and body are composed of a multitude of synthetic products both developed by my creators.

John: How does your new body feel?

Jane: It feels light. Moving is effortless. Once a year my creators check me out. If a part is needed, they insert it into or onto my body.

John: That’s great! How long can you exist?

Jane: I can exist forever, but if Earth is destroyed and I’m on Earth, I’ll be destroyed unless I escape into space.

    John: Do you sleep?

Jane: Yes. In fact, I dream. My brain needs to rest, and my battery is automatically charged every night. I’m a technological device that can go on forever.

John: I’m dumbfounded. Do your miss your old body and have you acclimated to your new body?

Jane: I miss the sensations of my old body. I’m not totally used to being superhuman. It stills feels strange. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to it, but I feel as if I’ve been reborn.

John: You have been reborn. Do you define yourself as being alive?

Jane: If you define being alive as having feelings and being aware then I’m alive, but I view myself as a being that exists.

John: That’s an excellent definition. What are you currently doing, and what are you plans for this year?

Jane: "I’ve been given a credit card to pay my expenses. It’s implanted
