      Family holidays are the best. Especially this year. Now that I know I’m a faery, destined to live out my exceedingly long life in the Faery Realm, I’m careful to enjoy my human family. While I have them.

      Take today. I don’t think I’ve ever fully appreciated how nice it is to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends. Even though she’s a few months into an unexpected pregnancy, Mom decided to go all out this year. She invited my best friend Lexie’s family—Lexie, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Davis, her twin brothers Nick and Doug, and her baby sister Candy—Brent Rodgers, Lexie’s boyfriend and my confidant, and, of course, Roddy, my erstwhile dragon guardian and current faery prince of a boyfriend.

      The day was wonderful! The house smelled of roast turkey, apple cider, cinnamon, and fresh baked apple pie. The twins raced around causing mayhem, and Candy toddled into everything, with Mom beaming at them all.

      I’ve forgotten what it’s like to have little ones in the house, I heard her whisper to Dad. Next year we’ll have a new addition to be thankful for.

      Dad pulled her into his arms, placed a hand over her tummy and said, We have a lot to be thankful for this year.

      I turned away, smiling. It’s great to see your parents so obviously in love. Even if the baby they’re expecting is a consolation prize from the King of Faery. My many-times-removed grandfather had expected to steal me away when Roddy presented me to the Faery Court at Halloween. Grandpa had expected me to arrive in Faery and never leave, so he’d used magic to ensure Mom conceived while the parental units were sunning in the south of France. He’d also expected to execute Roddy
