It is not uncommon for us to pray and ask God for the things that we desire the most. When it comes to women, it is also not uncommon for love and companionship to be at least 1 out of the top 5 of those requests. While God welcomes such prayers and even promises—with some conditions—to give us the desires of our hearts, what we pray for holds one of the greatest opportunities to find out what’s really in our hearts and minds. Many of us do not realize that God designed our desires and the vulnerability of our prayers to draw us into a spiritual journey that requires us to look at ourselves, life, and even understand Him more deeply. It is when we begin, endure, and complete certain stages in this journey that we are ready for and rewarded with answered prayers and more. Unfortunately, because we are often blinded by simply getting our prayers answered and desires fulfilled, we not only abandon or miss these opportunities for growth and revelation but live frustrated, stunted, miserable, and disappointed lives as our heartfelt prayers seem to go unanswered.
These unanswered prayers can make us question God’s love for us as well as our faith. Moreover, if such things do not cause us to turn away from Him completely, they cause us to stumble, veer off the path, or continuously struggle with sin and its repercussions. While this may not be the case with all unanswered prayers, it is often the case when it comes to a woman’s strong desire for love and companionship. I have seen woman after woman—and even myself—fall into the snare that surrounds our desire for companionship, that I am convinced it is one of the enemies most effective tools at drawing us away from God and our blessings. The supernatural reality is that behind every unanswered prayer is a reason and behind every reason is that same invitation to join God on a journey designed to not only find answers and our prayers but transform, enlighten, and mature us. Moreover, until we accept this journey and allow our prayers to do what they were intended to do, we will always fail to find peace, contentment, and fulfillment whether in or outside of marriage.
Nevertheless, this journey is not easy. It compels us to ask some deep and hard questions about ourselves and feel things that most of us have spent our entire lives trying not to feel. It requires us to confront and uncover the deep wounds and hidden lies within our hearts and minds that sometimes we do not even realize are
