About this ebook

Modrad knew his life would change upon returning home, but would it be for better or worse? Becoming a member of Vargrom's Elite Guard had its benefits. However, living under the watch of the council posed significant challenges, especially when it involved Duzmeam Wraithshield. When Modrad's worst nightmare comes to fruition, the dwarf immediately blames himself. He foresaw the events that would one day lead to conflict but brushed aside those fears at the request of his closest friend, Kasig Oakenhide. Too late to turn back, Modrad considers making the ultimate sacrifice. He'll have to choose between right and wrong, friend and home, and even life and death. This edition also includes a flash fiction tale, The Flying Exterminator, as well as character illustrations.

He would never forget that name. Despite testing his patience at times, Modrad owed Farfiz his life. Modrad swallowed, praying to Xelmes that his friend was safe.

Modrad’s anxiety only grew, though, as the sight in front of him confirmed the worst. A beast emerged from the cloud of smoke, its red body a stark contrast to the otherwise clear blue sky. Huge wings flapped, scattering some of the haze. It flew east, away from Vargrom, but Modrad knew the beast would likely be back.

He had feared this day ever since returning to Vargrom. Modrad couldn’t be certain it was the same dragon, but his gut rarely proved wrong. If the beast had somehow gotten word of Farfiz’s treachery, it would no doubt seek revenge. Still, how could it have found out? Besides himself and Farfiz, only one other person knew, but Modrad’s closest friend, Kasig Oakenhide, would never reveal their secret.
