- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Not bad instalment although I am wondering just how far this series is going to go on for. Going public on the weather was a nice tactic
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/53.5 stars
I'm starting to get a little frustrated. I absolutely love this series and I was enjoying the book until the last 50 or so pages. How much bad stuff can happen to one person already? It's starting to annoy me and I'm not really not looking forward to the next book. I'm afraid that it's going to be the same old/same old. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The series is certainly approaching the end. As stated in the preview, David poses the question and Joanna agrees. But like all situations that befall her, before the knot can be tied, disaster strikes in a very big way. Without giving away the storyline, which is something I don't do since I despise it when someone divulges the plot when I haven't read a novel, Joanne is determined to reach the alter come 'hades' or high water. The Wardens and the D'jinns are on the warpath but beware this book ends in a cliffhanger. I will always remove a point for authors who utilize this technique to get readers to buy their next book. My belief is every novel should complete the storyline it started and certainly it can drop clues as to what may happen in future books, but the reader should feel that they've read the entire novel. I've read Ms. Caine's other series, and at this point she is well established as an author and no longer needs to rely on these amateurish techniques.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This one felt like filler - the majority of the plot development was geared to what will occur in the next book. What started as a great series is losing its way.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A book that's hard to review without spoilers because it's basically all plot advancement in one of the plots at least. If you're still reading this, beware!David asks Jo to marry him. She agrees. There is a group of rogue warden-types called the Sentinels who want humans and Djinn to go in opposite directions once and for all - Jo's impending nuptials make her and David the prime target.Djinn politics gets nasty as the divisions between the two groups threaten various lives at various points, mostly Jo's.There is a reporter trying to break news about the Wardens as an organisation as well. There are other twists and turns, but this is, again, a fast-paced book ripping along on shopping, sex, sun and life-threatening moments. The wedding is a classic to read.My only complaint? It's clear that the next book (and it's clear there's going to be one) is going to be wrapping up this particular baddie. Why not one bigger book to have the whole story?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Someone is out to kill Joanne Baldwin. Not that death threats are anything new to Joanne but they are always unsettling. Especially in light of the mysterious killer(s) rhetoric against the djinn and the method they've chosen for destruction. However, a little death and destruction won't deter her from planning the wedding of her dreams (or is that nightmares) to David, the hottest djinn of them all.As always with the Weather Warden books I found the fast pace and characters to be engrossing. I finished the book in a day really unable to put it down. The problem is despite how much I like this author's writing, how much I enjoy the characters and how interesting I find the story, I do find myself wishing that there would be some sort of resolution. At this point I'd even be open to considering an unhappy ending just to see poor Joanne and David catch some rest. I have noted from a blurb in the book that Ms. Caine is planning another new series based in her djinn/Weather Warden world. I wish I could be more excited about it but since I'm already neck deep into her Weather Warden and Morganville Vampire series I'm not thrilled about starting something new while these linger on.While I'd highly recommend the Weather Warden books and will, of course, read the next of this series as soon as it comes out it might not be the best for those who aren't into cliff hangers. But, if you don't mind cliffies and enjoy fresh, exciting urban fantasy with a bit of humor (Joanne's ever increasingly dry, slightly deranged humor always cracks me up) I'd definitely say go for it!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I certainly liked this book better than the last Weather Warden book, but that does not mean that I liked it a lot. Yes, the scenes between Jo and David are even more steamy (if possible). Everyone looks like a runway model (especially the men). The clothes are fabulous (so is the wedding). And Jo acts more like a powerful being than the storm tossed heroine-to-be-saved of her last book (though she does end up healing in the arms of David after every bout with evil). Still the necessity of keeping the plot going (and going over the top) means that nothing is ever really settled. One evil is vanquished and an even more dangerous evil is uncovered. Jo becomes even more powerful, but not as powerful as her nemesis. The book ends on a cliff hanger that is a lull in the storm, but the basic problem is even further from being solved. I do hope that now that Rachel has several different lines of novels that she can successfully wrap these characters up in the next novel or two. I don't think they can be dragged out much longer without losing all credibility.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5ARGhh got half of my review written and hit the wrong key! All gone :(So what was I saying?Oh, its been almost 12 months since I finished Thin Air but finally my library got Gale Force and Cape Storm and I have begged them to put Total Eclipse on order. The talents of the Weather Wardens and the Djinn are something different and lead into interesting situations with a neat balance of action and emotion. The world and the charcters evolve over the series and flow from one book to the next.I appreciate that JoAnne holds her own despite David being such a large part of the story. Their relationship never runs smooth, but generates enough romantic wistfulness to satisfy HEA fans. The banter between the characters is always a fun distraction from the life and death battles. The plot itself was fast paced, yet not absurdly so, and I thought the new threat was a creative and intriguing one. I do sort of feel there were a few loose threads left waving that I hope Caine will deal with in Cape Storm. Can't wait til after work so I can start it. A great series that should satisfy PNR/HEA and UF fans alike.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book is fluff. Enjoyable, plot driven, fluff.
While the book was a good antidote to stress, the series is starting to feel a bit worn. The ending where the bad guy gets away at the last minute, was just too obvious a set-up for the next book in the franchise - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Back in force after the previously slightly disappointing preceeding book, "Gale Force" brings it back with the fast paced plot, seemingly impossible situations, interesting characters, the return of an old fiend and a bit of David hotness.
Still enjoying this serious, and happy to note that the chapters have gradually become a better length. But seriously, if David can "heal" a car - how come he can't fix the wedding dress? - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A major character returns to stir up the war between the Wardens and Djinn, and Joanne finds herself now fighting an additional faction of evil, as if things weren't screwed up enough for her. This one moves quick, and the reader now get a sense of overall tension building in the plot. I really liked how the Wardens finally revealed their purpose to the general public, explaining how they attempt to control the forces of nature to keep people as safe as possible. Well done.....
