      He took a drink

      to calm his nerves;

      it was foolish,

      I suppose

      for him to think

      that she would stay

      when the game

      he would play

      was broken hearts

      and savaged pride.

      This was the thought

      she kept inside:

      he loved me once

      or so he said

      and now he wishes

      I was dead.

      He took a walk

      to ease his fears

      he’d lied to her

      for years and years.

      He’d been a cheat

      from the start

      he’d never given up

      his callous heart

      to any woman, child,

      or man.

      He played a gambit

      that began

      with the first kiss

      he ever gave.

      His promises kept

      this knave

      moving moving

      all the time,

      once settled

      he could not decide

      his next move
