Cozy Cupcakes Café Quote of the Day

    ––––––––

You know this is the first time I’ve been to one of these fancy over-the-top garden parties, Katie said to Dana as they stepped across the gorgeous green lawn with their trays of Cherry Cream Cupcakes.

Me, too. This is really amazing. Feels like we’re in paradise.

Drake Storm, the new lottery winner and owner of Drake’s Berry Cove Hardware Store, insisted they bring only Cherry Creams for his celebratory party theme: The Cherry on the Cake. Dana had never heard of garden parties having a theme before, but then again, this wasn’t an ordinary garden party, was it? It was a celebratory event hosted by a new millionaire. Drake had just won the biggest lottery prize in the region.

His property was massive. It was right on the Lake so they had a breathtaking view of the magnificent waterfront.

It must be nice to live like that.

Dana couldn’t help but notice they owned a small private boat dock. There was a small-sized motorboat that was partially covered and tied to the dock. What an enticing view and impressive piece of land. It was as if the Lake was an extension of his backyard.

    Lucky them.

Must be nice to be that rich where you have your own private dock and boat.

She couldn’t help but notice the sign near the boat that read:

    PRIVATE DOCK

TRESPASSERS WILL BE USED AS BAIT

An image of a skull was beneath that.

Since it was on private land, she doubted anyone would be able to get through with all the security alarm systems in place.

She sighed and glanced around after placing the cupcakes on the table. There were rows of tables with white table clothes on them and garden chairs decorated with white chair covers, and tons of red and white balloons everywhere. There was a large round table with envelopes tied with bows. Dana figured it must be the gifts the winner was going to distribute to all his friends and family attending. The envelopes had a name on each one of them.

How sweet, Dana thought to herself.

If she ever won a lottery prize, she’d definitely give a large portion to each of her friends and family and donate a huge sum to her favorite charity and of course, pay off all her debts, put some aside for unexpected emergencies...She’d never have to worry about money again, neither would anyone close to her. But the chances of winning were slim to none. She wasn’t exactly the world’s luckiest person.

Dana observed the attendees. Everyone had a drink in their hand, a champagne glass or bottle of beer and they were all chatting and laughing. Some light jazz music played in the background over a speaker sound system.

Waiters dressed in black suits with white shirts and a black bow tie were making the rounds with trays of desserts. She was glad her Cherry Creams were the main attraction in keeping with the party theme.

The guests were all dressed in nice summer attire. It was an unusually hot day for May. Most of the men were wearing their cargo shorts and polo T-shirts.

The women wore trendy summer dresses. One of them approached Katie and Dana as they finished setting the table with the Cherry Cream Cupcakes. The woman had a glass of champagne in her hand and took a sip. Dana noticed her expensive-looking bracelets dangling on her wrist. Designer perfume oozed from her body.

The cupcakes look heavenly, she said, admiring the display as the cakes were lined up on the tray. "They’re scrumptious," she said, taking a bite after she picked one up from the tray. She rolled her eyes back and a satisfied grin curved her lips.

I’m Delilah Storm, by the way. Drake’s wife, she said, holding out her hand. She wore an off the shoulder white frill sleeve maxi dress and her long ebony hair cascaded down her back.

    Thank you, Dana said.

You must be the famous Cozy Cupcakes Café owner, she continued. I know I’ve seen your picture in the papers.

Dana flushed. She wasn’t one for enjoying the spotlight. Yep, that’s me.

Well, please don’t be shy, stick around for a while.

Thanks for the offer, but we have to be getting back soon, Dana said.

She looked disappointed. Right, of course, well, don’t be a stranger, just ask one of the staff if you need anything.

    Sure thing, Mrs....

No, please call me Delilah, she said, before walking off with her glass of champagne in
