    Instant Pot Cookbook for Beginners - Dexter Jackson

    Introduction

    Congratulations on downloading your personal copy of The Instant Pot Cookbook: The Quick and Easy Complete Pressure Cooker Guide With Tons of Delicious Recipes, and thank you for doing so.

    The following chapters will discuss how this unique pressurized cooker can do the task of being a sauté pan, yogurt maker, rice cooker, steamer, slow cooker, or an electric pressure cooker. The amount of time you save will make the Instant Pot a much needed ‘new' appliance for your kitchen needs. Some of the recipes are healthy and some—maybe not so much.  One thing for sure is they will be delicious.

    Once you read all of these quick and easy recipes; you will be ready to make a shopping list of what you want to make first. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts are available for the taking, so you will want to get started on your new way of life right away.

    There are plenty of books on this subject on the market, thanks again for choosing this one! Every effort was made to ensure it is full of as much useful information as possible. Please enjoy!

    Chapter 1: How to Use the Instant Pot Cooker

    Before you begin your journey with your new Instant Pot, you

    will need to understand how it functions. These are some of the preset buttons/settings versus the standard ones provided with what each function performs:

    Timer: The timer function can delay the cooking process. You will need to choose this feature to cook with by making adjustments; press the timer button, and click the (+) and (-) keys.

    Slow Cooker: This function will set a default to a four-hour slow cook time. Adjust the setting for Low (190-201°F), Regular (194-205°F) or the High setting (199-210°F). You can adjust the cooking time by using the minus and plus keys.

    Pressure: This button will change the pressure from high to low.

    Yogurt: Make delicious treats with this handy Instant Pot Yogurt maker. You can place the yogurt directly in the pot or jars.

    You will notice some of the following terms used throughout each chapter of the recipes:

    Instant Pot: IP

    Quick Release (QR): This function is used to release the pressure quickly such as when you are cooking vegetables. It will prevent the veggies from becoming mushy. You will also use the QR to add ingredients to a recipe during the cooking process. Make sure to use a towel to prevent the chances of being burned by steam when you diffuse the pressure. Turn the valve slowly but close it quickly if you see the food is bubbling.

    Natural Pressure Release (NPR) or NR: Sometimes the term is also stated as 'naturally release the pressure.' The context will change according to the type of recipe. If you don’t disturb the pot during the cooking cycle; it will release naturally. The silver button will be moving. This sequence is used to help keep your meat from becoming ‘tough.’

    Divided: You will notice in some recipes that one ingredient is used in more than one place in the recipe.

    These are regular cooking terms but may be useful if you are a beginner:

    Cup = C

    Tablespoon = T. = Tbsp.

    Teaspoon = t. =tsp.

    Gram = g

    Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

    Since you are probably a beginner; you will benefit from some of the mistakes made by others. Hopefully, by using these guidelines; you won’t make the same mistakes.

    #1: The Cooking Liquid: You might experience situations where you don't have enough liquid, or you might have too much. Either way, it will cause problems if the steam cannot properly build in the IP.

    It is recommended to use one cup of liquid in the Instant Pot, at least until you can better judge how to use less or more. If you have too much liquid, your cooking times will increase which can lead to overcooking the food. If it is too thin, just add thickeners after the pressure cooking cycle is complete by using cornstarch, flour, arrowhead, or potato starch.

    #2: Forgetting to place the inner pot back into the IP before pouring the ingredients into the pot is a frequent mistake: Mistakes can happen when you are in a rush preparing dinner or any other meal. There is no need to stress because your handy machine will come to the rescue! One way to remember the inner liner is to place a silicone mat, a glass lid or a wooden spoon across the pot each time you remove the liner.
