About this ebook

'Enlightenment' means literally being full of Light. This book is about enlightenment, what it is and how to achieve it. I treat enlightenment here as an actual visceral, psychic experience, as a cosmic orgasm of short duration much like its analogous physical counterpart. Enlightenment is also seen here as an out of body experience through a wormhole, for example, into parallel dimensions. Places where we get a glimpse of other realities while we are still alive, outside the 'box' in which we are habituated.

Tantra has to do with utilizing the physical body as a vehicle for enlightenment and liberation as opposed to an exercise in mindfulness for example. Many people mistakenly believe that Tantra is only about sex but sexual practice in Tantra is a minor footnote in Tantrism and is not the subject of this book.

'Samana' (renunciation) and 'Ahimsa,' (doing no harm) are the two main pillars in Buddhism, Hinduism and many other religious traditions. Unfortunately, 'Samana' renunciation has been so distorted and misconstrued that it has led to the vilification and ultimately the destruction of Nature that we are facing as a species across the planet.

The reference to 'Post Modernity' has to do with the fact that we live in our time and that we cannot pretend to live in the medieval worlds that gave birth to 'Tantra' in the first place. Therefore we need to interpret those traditions and teachings in light of what we know of the world we actually live in.

I am not a scientist, but many of the themes I explore in this work are analogous to what is going on in the world around us and I therefore draw parallels and comparisons as a result of which some may accuse me of being pseudo-scientific. I acknowledge the criticism in advance, but I make no apologies. My observations and experiences are empirical in nature and in some cases extremely hard to prove, if at all possible.

Enlightenment -Tantra Yoga for Post-Modernity - Bogos Kalemkiar

Take this seed

This dormant Seed strung in the entrails of Petals,

Petals swooning listlessly

Dripping Fire.

Take this Humming

This clanging of Bells, this beating of Drums

Whistles screeching, hot and cold sweat.

Take this Eye pressed to frenzy

Swallowing a Heart

Festooned with Burning Seraphs.

Take this Heart Pierced relentlessly

Tearing Veils in coiled, Ascending Fury.

Take this Silent Whispering Enchantment

Embracing Eternity.

Introduction

‘Enlightenment’ means literally being full of Light. Places where we get a glimpse of other realities while we are still alive, outside the ‘box’ in which we are habituated.

Tantra has to do with utilizing the physical body as a vehicle for enlightenment and liberation as opposed to an exercise in mindfulness or devotion for example. Many people mistakenly believe that Tantra is only about sex but sexual practice in Tantra is a minor footnote in Tantrism and is not the subject of this book.

‘Samana’ (renunciation) and ‘Ahimsa,’ (doing no harm) are the two main pillars in Buddhism, Hinduism and many other religious traditions. Unfortunately, Samana, renunciation has been so distorted and misconstrued that it has led to the vilification and ultimately the destruction of Nature that we are facing as a species across the planet stemming from the false doctrines of disparaging the body.

The reference to ‘Post Modernity’ has to do with the fact that we live in our time and that we cannot pretend to live in the medieval worlds that gave birth to ‘Tantra’ in the first place. Therefore we need to interpret those traditions and teachings in light of what we know of the world we actually live in.

Chapter 1

The Third Eye –Ajna Chakra

flower_mudra.jpg

It all started for me at the age of seventeen, in the back seat of a car, stoned on some hashish when I inadvertently rubbed my eyes and a retinal explosion of light lit up my brain, enveloping my whole vision. I kept pressing my eyes and the light show continued. It was like looking through a kaleidoscope but with colors and the intensity of a strobe light inside my head. The flowering, unfolding, and undulating images we see with a kaleidoscope were taking place in my induced field of vision just by the simple action of pressing my eyes. The result I suppose of a firing up of synapses between the retina and the optic nerve from pressing my eyes and its affect on my senses. I found that I could repeat the experience and without the use of any drugs. This was a pivotal and groundbreaking moment in my life. I had opened my ‘Third Eye’ one of the holy grails of the occult (the hidden). It was a physiological, repeatable phenomenon, not magic hocus-pocus, or hallucination and it was the true start of my meditative life.

The late Oliver Sachs¹ has written extensively about ‘Ocular Migraine’ and the complex patterns one might see in a migraine aura -hexagons and geometrical patterns of many shapes, including fractal patterns. These are called ‘phosphenes’ and the phenomenon is labeled ‘photopsia’. What I saw and experienced was in the molecular, cellular level of my consciousness. A firestorm between the synapses in my brain that generated an organic sub-atomic quantum world. My experience may be pointing at the roots of what constitutes consciousness itself.

Sitting in a comfortable position, wearing loose clothing, on an empty stomach, close the eyes and press them gently with your fingers, preferably the softer fleshier sides of the folded index fingers should do (look at picture above). In an ideal situation, as the eyes are pressed, two orb-like pulsating shapes will appear, expand, and merge in one’s vision corresponding to the pressure on each eye lobe. Their points of intersection will overlap like the ripples from two stones thrown at the same instant into a still pool of water. At the centre of these intersecting ripples will appear a crystalline point of light. Focusing on these points will expand them into seed shapes. The seeds will multiply and become a moving blossom. Myriad petals will fill one’s vision. The resulting centre will be in flux, folding in upon itself with patterns overlapping each other in various hues of luxuriant colors. I call this the Luminous or Golden Flower, or the Heavenly Eye. It is commonly referred to as the Third Eye. I think this is the Thousand Petal Lotus which is usually attributed to the Crown Chakra but some will hotly contest this assertion. Then we will see with ‘one’ eye, just as with do with our eyes open.  All this is not necessarily going to happen the first time you try the exercise.

At first things will probably be chaotic fireworks or dim ghostlike shadows. One has to persist. Our body is our most precious laboratory. The pressure on the eyes should be very light and gentle. If there is pain, that means there is
