    Introduction

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." – St. Augustine

I believe that one of the greatest gifts to a human’s soul is travel. There are certain sensations, experiences, achievements and expectations that only travelling can fulfill. Unfortunately, travel is not something that appears in our schooling or college curriculum. Throughout my school years, no one ever explained to me the why about travel and its importance in sculpting you as a human being, nor the how about planning, organizing, researching, deciding and budgeting for a trip.

Instead, we have been guided towards entering the rat race as soon as possible. While that race can definitely have its perks and benefits, no one ever mentioned to us how difficult (or how crucial) it is to pause and take a breather once you have started the race. Think about it – regardless of where you come from in the world, the vast majority of you have followed a track similar to this one:

    • 12 years of basic schooling

    • University

    • Job and/or Master’s degree

    • Promotion to a better job or starting your own business

    • Getting married

    • Having children

    • Retirement

In the past ten years, I have lived in five different countries where regardless of the language and the culture, the majority follow this outline.

Throughout life, I have never accepted things just because everyone else does it that way. I have always questioned whether something would be the best option for me. Around the age of 22, right before entering the rat race, I stopped and did something that few people do at that age. I sat down and designed the lifestyle I wanted to have. In my case, there was an evident absence of materialistic objects. I knew that MY life needed to have a certain balance between the race and my passion, which is travelling. I also knew that I was not made for being a complete digital nomad, so living out of a backpack for many years was not an option for me. By doing this at the age of 22, I was able to choose a professional path that would not hinder my desire and need to enjoy long trips throughout the phases of life mentioned before. I planned a race with the option to take plenty of well-deserved breathers along the way.

Of course, most of you who are reading this have managed to
