About this ebook

Anxiety is a mental medical disorder that produces a severe or protracted fear reaction that is inappropriate.
Anxiety is the body’s natural reaction to danger, a routine alarm that triggers off when a person feels threatened, under pressure, or is facing a stressful situation.
Actually anxiety can help the person stay alert and focused, spur the person to action, and motivate him or her to solve problems.
But when anxiety is frequent or overwhelming, when it affects the relationships and activities, it stops being functional
It can be a hereditary problem with patient becoming fearful of minor problems
The patient might have a fast heart rate, a thumping heart (palpitations), feeling sick (vomiting), shaking (tremor), dry mouth, chest pain, headaches, sweating, fast breathing.
The physical symptoms are partly produced by the brain which transmits lots of messages down nerves to different parts of the body when the patient is anxious.
The nerve signals tend to make the heart, lungs, and other parts of the body work faster.
Also, the patient releases stress hormones (such as ephedrine) into the blood circulation when the patient are anxious.
These can also work on the heart, muscles and other regions of the body to produce symptoms.
Anxiety disorders are the most frequent of mental disorders.
Panic attacks are a form of anxiety with sudden feelings of terror happening without notice.
These events can happen at any time even while asleep
The panic attack is a severe attack of anxiety and fear which happens suddenly, often without warning, and for no known cause
Distinct from other anxiety forms, panic attacks are very sudden and often unanticipated, unprovoked, and are often affecting the function.
There is a sense of terror of impending doom or death that something unimaginably terrible is about to happen and one is incapable to prevent it
Panic disorder is one of the most curable of all the anxiety disorders, reacting in most cases to certain types of medicine or certain forms of cognitive psychotherapy which help alter thinking patterns that result in fear and anxiety.
Treatment:
1. Reassurance from doctors that it is not dangerous
2. Rest
3. Psychotherapy and counseling
4. Mild tranquillizer may be given if required
5. Antidepressants may help
6. Beta heart blocker can slow the heart rate.

    Introduction

I have been writing medical articles for my blog http://kennethkee.blogspot.com (A Simple Guide to Medical Condition) for the benefit of my patients since 2007.

My purpose in writing these simple guides was for the health education of my patients.

Health Education was also my dissertation for my Ph.D (Healthcare Administration).

I then wrote an autobiolographical account of his journey as a medical student to family doctor on his other blog http://afamilydoctorstale.blogspot.com.

This autobiolographical account A Family Doctor’s Tale was combined with my early A Simple Guide to Medical Conditions into a new Wordpress Blog A Family Doctor’s Tale on http://kenkee481.wordpress.com.

From which many free articles from the blog was taken and put together into 700 amazon kindle books and some into Smashwords.com eBooks.

Some people have complained that the simple guides are too simple.

For their information they are made simple in order to educate the patients.

The later books go into more details of medical conditions.

The first chapter is always from my earlier blogs which unfortunately tends to have typos and spelling mistakes.

Since 2013, I have tried to improve my spelling and writing.

As I tried to bring the patient the latest information about a condition or illness by reading the latest journals both online and offline, I find that I am learning more and improving on my own medical knowledge in diagnosis and treatment for my patients.

Just by writing all these simple guides I find that I have learned a lot from your reviews (good or bad), criticism and advice.

I am sorry for the repetitions in these simple guides as the second chapters onwards have new information as compared to my first chapter taken from my blog.

I also find repetition definitely help me and maybe some readers to remember the facts in the books more easily.

I apologize if these repetitions are irritating to some readers.

    Chapter 1

    Anxiety and Panic Attacks

Anxiety and Panic attacks are very stressful

The brain becomes faint and fearful

    The heart beats very fast

Breathing feels it can not last

    The person has dizziness

    There is chest tightness

    There is terror and gloom

There is a sense of doom

The hands are tingling or numbness

The brain feels terror and powerless

    There is trembling and shaking;

There is also a fear of dying

    Anxiety is highly treatable condition

With cognitive behavior therapy and medication

Treatment will change the response of the brain

To fear and anxiety and Final calmness will reign!

    Anxiety

    What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a mental medical disorder that produces a severe or protracted fear reaction that is inappropriate.

Anxiety is the body’s natural reaction to danger, a routine alarm that triggers off when a person feels threatened, under pressure, or is facing a stressful situation.

Actually anxiety can help the person stay alert and focused, spur the person to action, and motivate him or her to solve problems.

But when anxiety is frequent or overwhelming, when it affects the relationships and activities, it stops being functional

It can be a hereditary problem with patient becoming fearful of minor problems

There is a link with personality types.

This disorder is more common in women than in men.

When the patient is anxious the patient feel fearful and tense.

Also the patient may also have one or more disagreeable physical symptoms.

Also, the patient releases stress hormones (such as ephedrine) into the blood circulation when the patient are anxious.

These can also work on the heart, muscles and other regions of the body to produce symptoms.

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress and can be advantageous in some situations.

It can alert the patient to dangers and help him or her prepares and pays attention.

Anxiety disorders vary from normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness, and induce excessive fear or anxiety.

Anxiety disorders are the most frequent of mental disorders and affect more than 25 million Americans.

Most people will be anxious when endangered by a belligerent person, or before an important athletic run.

The burst of adrenaline and nerve impulses which every one has in reaction to stressful situations can induce a 'fight or flight' response.

    Anxiety is abnormal if it:

    1. Is out of sync to the stressful situation; or

    2. Persists when a stressful situation has gone, or the stress is minor; or

    3. Appears for no apparent reason when there is no stressful situation.

But anxiety disorders are treatable and a number of effective treatments are present.

Treatment helps most people lead normal productive lives.

Anxiety indicates anticipation of a future concern and is more linked with muscle tension and avoidance behavior.

Fright is an emotional reaction to an imminent threat and is more linked with a fight or flight reaction – either remaining to fight or departing to escape danger.

Anxiety disorders can cause people into try to avoid situations that trigger or make their symptoms worse.

Work performance, school study and personal relationships can be affected.

Generally, for a person to be identified as an anxiety patient, the fear
