About this ebook

“Muslims are just as peace-loving as the Christians, Hindus, Jews or Buddhists. Religions are not good or bad, neither are the books that apparently represent them. Whether a religion is of peace or violence should be defined by the actions of its people, not by some books.”

Abhijit Naskar is one of the world’s famous Neuroscientists and an untiring advocate of global harmony. He became a beloved best-selling author all over the world with his very first book The Art of Neuroscience in Everything, that heralded the advent of a rejuvenating scientific philosophy, the sole purpose of which was to enrich human life with self-awareness.

With various of his pioneering ventures into the Neuropsychology of religious sentiments, he has hugely contributed to humanity’s attempt of breaking down the citadels of religious conflicts, for which he is popularly hailed as a humanitarian who incessantly works towards taking the human civilization in the path of sweet general harmony.

In The Islamophobic Civilization, Naskar has undertaken the responsibility to give humanity the scientific insight of the biological underpinnings of one of the most disgraceful prejudices of modern society, i.e. Islamophobia. He gently uncovers the neurobiology of Islamophobia while dismantling its irrational and unempirical roots of fear from the human mind. Here a scientist makes an incredible effort as a human being to build a bridge of love and peace between the peace-loving Muslims and the rest of humanity.

    Preface

    ––––––––

This little piece of human literature is the attempt of a scientist to bring down the man-made wall of differentiation between those who are known as Muslims and the rest of humanity. This book is a tool to reinforce the harmonious relationship between two portions of the same species.

Diversity is Nature’s stronghold, yet that very diversity has become a curse for an entire species, which is supposedly the most advanced one on its planet. The glorious members of this species kill each other in the name of God and religion. They kill each other in the name of language and food. They kill each other in the name of race and over every other minuscule difference that ever festers in their mind.

Can we really call this advancement? Is it what it means to be an intelligent species? Is this why our ancestors struggled till the last breath of their lives, in the ruthlessness of the wilderness for millions of years? If this is called civilization, then I am afraid humanity is no more civilized than the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The only difference between these two, is that, those known as the Homo sapiens use modern technology in their acts of brutality, and the Rex used their innate brawns to reign over Earth and all its creatures.

There is a reason for humanity being called as Homo sapiens. But modern conditions of the so-called civilized world have disgraced that very name. Now all that remains is the shallow name, but no qualities that are supposed to go along with it.

The binomial Homo sapiens was coined by Carl Linnaeus in his 18th century work Systema Naturae. The generic name Homo means something quite simple. This Latin term refers to man or ultimately earthly being. Things however, get interesting when we get to the species-name, i.e. sapiens. Sapiens means wise or sapient. At least that’s what it is supposed to mean.

Sectarianism, bigotry and its horrible descendants, fanaticism and fundamentalism, have long possessed this beautiful earth. They have filled this beautiful planet with violence, drenched it with human blood, destroyed civilizations and sent whole nations to despair. Had it not been for these horrible demons of the primitive human psyche, human society would be a society of a truly wise species. Wise means acceptance, not differentiation. Wise means helping, not fighting. Wise means assimilation, not destruction. Wise means harmony and peace, not dissension.

This should be the ultimate purpose of every feat of excellence that humanity accomplishes. Every piece of literature that the human mind concocts should relentlessly work towards kindling the spirit of harmony, love and peace in the heart of thinking humanity. Make love your religion, and all the citadels of man-made religious conflicts shall disappear from the face of earth once and for all.

You are the biological children of immortal bliss. You are the heirs of infinite love and light. Come out my friend. Come out from the narrow lanes of darkness. Come out into the vivacious light of the day where all the glory resides. Come out, O lions, and shake off the ancient mysticism and prejudices. You are the most fascinating expression of Mother Nature. Your soul is the expression of the whole Universe. All the power in the universe is born with you in your biology. Recognize them, realize them and ultimately utilize them in the pursuit of spreading love, harmony and peace.

    1.  Introduction

    ––––––––

Homo sapiens – this is the name of the species, evolved around two hundred thousand years ago in Africa, that has been endowed by Mother Nature with a glorious fusion of mesmerizing traits, or qualities, that no other species has been adorned with. Through relentless struggle in the wilderness, this species has become the master of this entire planet, and in fact, this entire solar system. They have attained extraordinary greatness in the realm of intellect and rationality as well as in the peculiarly humane domain of compassion and love.

They are the humans, who are uniquely adorned with the priceless characteristic of empathizing. They are the humans who shed tears full of purity and piety, when they see even a complete stranger in pain and misery. They are the humans who come together to save a kid in the neighborhood when he is trapped under the wreckage of his fallen home, regardless of caste, creed and religion.

They are the humans who are capable of standing next to a friend in times of utter darkness, even if it means facing the wrath of the whole world. They are the humans who are intelligent enough to have insight of every single molecular underpinning of the warmth of love, and yet not let that factual knowledge ruin the romance in a relationship.

They are the humans who are enabled by Mother Nature to understand all the physical phenomena of this world at an atomic level, and at the same time marvel at them with a pure feeling of awe. All of human achievements drive the entire species towards one single purpose, which is improving the quality of life.

Among 8.7 million species of life-forms, only one, the Homo sapiens – the humanity, is gifted by Nature to see beyond the basic needs of survival. The humans are the only species that can perceive the value of the sweetness of life, as well the necessity of advancement. We are the most factual species on earth as well as the most emotional one.

However, all the understandings, achievements and advancements suddenly appear bleak and irrelevant, when somewhere around the corner of the street we hear the phrase Allahu Akbar. An unforeseen sense of fear arises from the depth of the subconscious mind of the so-called modern human society, every time the phrase Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim floats in the air.

The general human mind cannot really account for this unreasonable fear, which can easily be termed by modern humanity as prejudice. It is one of those feelings that the human mind has no explanation for. The only elucidation that the mind can attain is an awkward sense of correlation between two sociologically reinforced terms – Islam and Terrorism.

The incessant correlation and juxtaposition of these two terms by the society
